So I'm not anti comic movies at all, and I can readily admit that I fricking love some Ryan Reynolds. But a lot of the jokes in that trailer just felt REALLY forced, like to the point where they weren't very funny. I hope the final product is better than what I just watched.

I express your sentiment exactly. Didn't read any comincs growing up but enjoy some of the movies. I can't handle the over the top stuff in thor/green lantern but will watch them when they eventually show up on HBO/Redbox

The trailer seemed cool and I will watch, but the one-liners are kind of overdone. Reminds me too much of the xmen movies where it's like bam boom action sequence, cheesy one liner, cut to another action sequence.

The one liners are faithful to the Deadpool comic. One of the recent iterations of his series was (and might still be) written by two stand up comedians. The character itself started as a spoof of a DC character (Deathstroke) with a costume mocking Spiderman's costume. The character and various series he's had have been used to comment on the medium of comic books in a humorous way.

There are series that have given him more depth, and I think that's what they're using for the movie, but I never read those. I just read the one where he's trying to kill undead presidents.

that makes a lot more sense. he's supposed to be goofy because that's how he is written.

see, you learn something every day.

You and Coco's criticisms are very valid though, it shouldn't take prior knowledge of the character to be entertained by the trailer.

Deadpool is not a hero. He is a merc who goes where the money is. He just doesn't take money from the really bad guys. If there is a mission that requires doing some bad things; like assassination, blackmailing, transporting goods, you hire Deadpool. He's Wolverine without a team affliation.

As pointed out, Marvel usually gets comedians to write his stuff. He once kidnapped a goon from AIM (Bob) and had him as a sidekick until Bob died. Then he also had his zombie head as a Sidekick for a while. His stuff is funny in that over the top way, with some subtle stuff thrown in.

I guess some people like the character Deadpool and some don't. I'm just one who doesn't. It seems to me like we have a superpowered character killing a bunch of non-superpowered characters and wisecracking about it. What makes that so special?

Because he says naughty words, so it's "edgy"...

there's a version of deadpool where he goes to an alternate universe and pretty much kills all the famous superheroes in the MU which was awesome.

I believe the arc is called "Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe"

And to be fair, I knew that he was a wise-cracking, one-line-dropping smartass who breaks the fourth wall and all that. I knew that simply from seeing threads on here about him (as well as that test footage from a year or two ago).

I remember seeing the test footage and thinking that if that's how this character is, then Ryan Reynolds is a perfect actor for it. And I don't mind shite like that at all...for example, I thought he was great in Blade Trinity, and he was kicking arse and being a smartass and dropping one-liners the whole time in that one. shite, I liked him as Deadpool in the Wolverine Origins movie, and he was doing the same thing in that one. I just felt like this trailer was forcing them way too hard, that's all.

And like I said, I assume the finished product will be better than the trailer (and I realize why they put the one-liners and stuff in the trailer, because that's what people want to see from Deadpool).

He didn't say anything in that movie, as his mouth was sewn shut, but I get your point.

Hewas a wise-cracking a-hole (Wade Wilson) before they turned him into that Deadpool...that's what I'm referring to.

wood: [ACHIEVED] NOT HAPPENING

I forsee the DX crotch-chop becoming a "boom" meme once the movie goes to DVD.

he is training Negasonic Teenage Warhead - remember he was not in the rebooted xmen - yes he was in DoFP, bu tthat was from the origional trilogy team - not the first class run.

personally i like this Colossus's look over the Cudmore look.
