yes, he has every right to destroy his phone. and the nfl has every right to fine and/or suspend him for not cooperating in their investigation along with their initial findings that he was complicit and intentional in cheating during a football game.

So you agree that the NFL followed the their conduct penalties to the letter? Okay. Well what about the rule that states that the punishment for tampered footballs is a fine?

And before you bring up the added wording that makes it okay for the NFL to add additional penalties as they see fit, let's talk about the 2012 San Diego Chargers. In that year, they got caught red handed putting adhesive substances on the ball to make the ball easier to catch.

If you think the Panthers-Vikings thing was just some honest mistake, it's a lot harder to convince me that there was no intent by the Chargers to gain an advantage. And the Chargers' punishment? A $20,000 fine. That's it.

what player was found to be involved? they were also cleared but still fined for their lack of cooperation with instructions from game officials

Well Farve's transgressions were off the field. Brady's alleged transgressions have to do with the integrity of the game. There is a difference.

Full disclosure, I am a Bears fan and could care less about the Patriots or Tom Brady.

Favre's transgressions were even worse since the lady he was sending D pics to was the Jets sideline reporter. Hello!!! Sexual harassment of an employee.

Wow. The NFL made a mountain out of a molehill. They should have just said the footballs were outside of game specs but they did not have conclusive evidence as to why.

I'm just tired of all this BS and am tired of Roger Goodell. I'm just done with the NFL. Done following it and done watching it. Bears are going to suck anyway so I am missing nothing. The whole league is going down the toilet because of all this off field soap opera crap.

Football is played on Saturdays anyway.

Everything that Goodell has done in this has been a shitshow. How it should have been handled: NFL only comment that they were looking into it, led it fade away, and issue large fines to Brady and the Patriots.

Simply put, this is NOT that big of a deal, but it is fineable to deter future attempts.

Heck, Aaron Rodgers has admitted to overinflating footballs, and there hasn't been a peep about him. This just wasn't that big deal, and should have been dealt with behind closed doors.

Instead, like everything else, Goodell needs to show everyone that he is the cock of the walk, and every little thing becomes a BIG DEAL paraded before the media.

ANyone that things Brady deserves 4 games for this stupid, insignificant bullshite is just a moron. You're too blinded by your hatred of the Pats and Brady (who, by the way, I am not a fan of at all and dislike greatly).

Just another bungle by ole Roger.

But did they comply with the investigation, admit wrongdoing and pay the fine and apologize? Brady went so far as to destroy his phone and say that incriminating texts weren't as they seemed, but rather him making fun of a fat dude. C'mon man!

Exactly.

Or the fact that pretty well every QB likes their football a certain way.

The NFL should have fined him and moved on. Even that would have been unfair since pretty near every other QB likes to manipulate the ball they use - but at least it would have been fining a person for speeding instead of trying to sentence him to a night in jail (when everyone else was also speeding)

The penalty for doing it is a fine. The penalty for hiding it and hindering the investigation will be a suspension. See Bountygate, a precedent was set.

Ok. I haven't read the whole thread but the reason I think Brady got the 4 games suspension was because he didn't cooperate with the NFL investigation and the txts between the patriot staff pretty much implied that Brady has asked the balls be deflated.

If this does go to court Brady's phone records can be subpoenaed regardless of him destroying his phone.

If Brady was hiding something on his phone it will come out at trial. I think at this point Brady threatens actions but doesn't take any.

There has to be a punishment for not cooperating with the league. Otherwise what's to keep everyone from cheating as they see fit, then lying, then destroying their cellphones when they know all will happen is a measly fine? A fine is nothing.

Well, we should find out rather quickly, I doubt Brady will sit on the injunction.

Brady should play the next 2-3 years and then retire while this is tied up.

I would be shocked if that argument held up in court. They were able to talk to the other parties and obtain the text messages they were interested in seeing.

I hope Brady burns the NFL and Goodell to the ground in court. I have really grown to despise that commissioner's office like no other.

What player was found to be involved in the case of 2014 New England Patriots? The Wells Report didn't say that Brady was involved beyond a shadow of a doubt. It only said that he "more likely than not" knew something was up with the balls. You don't win a conviction as a prosecutor by claiming someone "more likely than not" committed a crime.

What do you define as a lack of cooperation. Brady sat in an interview room with Ted Wells for eight hours during the investigation and answered all of his questions. The only thing he refused to do was give up his personal cell phone, that the NFL or Wells has no right to.
