Depends on how it was billed out. Did the provider(s) send records and bills to the attorney, did they send them to the patient, or did they bill med-pay directly.

And it depends on any lien agreements.

At the end of the day, the bills are technically the patient's responsibility. But that's part of the attorney's job to take care of those unpaid balances (with PIP or Medpay involved) in my experience. I guess there could be some post-settlement agreement that the patient is to pay the bills directly but I don't think those are as common as they used to be.
