Did you get dizzy with that spin?

Nick Saban is a great recruiter. He is also a great football coach. Most of the personnel in major college football are A-A's. His politics is incidental to his success on the field.I doubt that Nick gets into deep serious discussions of politics when he visits a recruit.
You might have noticed that all football coaches also have A-A players. Are they all Democrat party members? Every damn one of them?
I guess you are never far from your politics are you? Too bad.

Yea, Saban and his "I'm with Hillary" t-shirt are raking them in this year.

I think you're on to something. Wasn't there a four star DL who was a Penn State lean until Saban explained his position on the Trans Pacific Partnership to him? Now because of TPP he's a bama boy and who could blame him?

If you're saying Saban pushes single issue buttons to persuade blacks to do his bidding then you're right, he is definitely a democrat.

You're bat-shite crazy, dude. Why would Saban "give the finger" to LSU? He was treated well, was extremely successful, and left on his own accord.

He did leave on his own accord. And he tried to do that several times before. You don't remember his constant flirting with NFL teams? Saban saw LSU as nothing more or less than a stepping stone. He never had any attachment to LSU other than as a temporary job with a big fat paycheck. Do you actually believe that he had this "love" for LSU? He wanted out from day one. He tried to escape several times before leaving for Miami but he didn't get the package that he demanded. It was a case of AMF to LSU I'm on to the big time. And oh Houston Nutt is the man you deserve.

I believe Saban was more career and self-minded than loyal to any one program, but it's nutty to think that Saban would intentionally sabotage the program upon leaving. He was already putting LSU in a tough spot by the timing of the leave. Why would he go one step further trying to burn down what he had built.

By many accounts, Saban could be a prick. But I've seen no accounts of him being psychotic or sadistic.

Among Saban's qualities is his ability to evaluate talent. Do you actually believe that he thought that Houston Nutt would be a good choice to replace him? Think it through. We are talking Houston Nutt here. Of all of the coaches in America, he recommended Nutt. What better way to cement his legacy than to be followed by Houston Nutt?

In restrspect, Saban has admitted that BR, all of LA, and LSU was a very fond time in their lives with great memories.

You seriously believe this?

I do. Nutt was considered a hot commodity at one point by many football insiders (enough so to be hired by two other SEC programs) and caused LSU plenty of fits (going 6-7 against them) during his career.

Recommending Nutt is much more plausible than a scorched earth theory.

ETA: Saban also went out of his way to leave his successor a shite ton of notes about the program, iirc.

In fact, after he left for Miami, he used to call guys like Moffit and Jumbo, and would break down crying.

Do not believe.

He also went out of his way to give up on recruiting his final year. So much so that he didn't even recruit the #1 qb in the country from his own back yard. I guess most people don't realize what shite (not the players committed but the # of commits)he left Miles with that last class.

So you're saying he absolutely knew, what, a year in advance before he was leaving?

Is any of this "second thoughts about coming to LSU" stuff new to any of y'all? Wasn't that common knowledge? I am pretty sure in my list of reasons to hate the mans guts it is because of him saying he was afraid he made a mistake while on his way here.

I never cared that he felt that way, it is only natural when making big decisions, but I believe you have to be a total fricking moron to say something like that. Did you tell your Fiance just before the wedding that you think it might be a mistake!!! You do if you are a self absorbed arse.

You don't think Jimmy Sexton had been talking to multiple nfl teams throughout our 2004 season?

I wouldn't doubt that Sexton kept some irons in the fire for Saban, but to think Saban had already checked on LSU at least a year in advance is pretty farfetched.

A good agent is always doing groundwork for his best clients. Plus, Saban moving again and again must mean better paydays for Sexton.

I would not be surprised if Saban had multiple chances to leave LSU during his time here. Who knows who many contract extensions or raises happened due to this.

He was flirting with NFL when he was at Michigan St. before he even came to LSU. He was a threat to bolt to the NFL from day one of his hiring at LSU.

quote:

When the Giants fired Dan Reeves after the 1996 season, they eventually hired Jim Fassel. Before hiring Fassel, the Giants interviewed Saban, who at the time served as the coach at Michigan State..

“We were very impressed with him,” John Mara said of Saban. “We offered him the job.”

Taking it a step farther, the late George Young, G.M. of the Giants at the time, told John Mara and his father, Wellington, that Saban was “the best candidate [Young had] ever interviewed.”

The problem is that Saban wanted control over personnel and the coaching staff. The Giants didn’t want to give the coach that kind of power. And so the process of negotiating a contract broke down before it ever got very far.

LINK

quote:

Imagine Bill Polian, Peyton Manning, and Nick Saban all working together. Or at least trying to.

It could have happened, and it would have happened if Polian had his way.

In the excellent new Nick Saban biography, Monte Burke explains that Polian wanted to hire Saban to replace Lindy Infante.

Polian met with Saban, who at the time was coaching Michigan State, and Polian liked what he heard from Saban.

“I was prepared to offer him the job,” Polian told Burke.

The talks broke down, as they did a year earlier with the Giants, because Saban wanted control over personnel and the coaching staff. Which is merely a glimpse of the friction that would have emerged if three guys who like to control everything — Polian, Saban, and Manning — had been working together.
