The question then becomes, how much can you put around him to maximize the potential of the team? I don't see where they'll have the capability to give him a couple of the mid-tier FAs that most championship teams have.
It's not that he's a not a great player. He obviously is but every team isn't structured well enough to build a championship team. Great players are essential but so are cost-controlled assets like good rookies and good young vets that haven't reached FA yet. When it reaches that point you either stand pat and be content to have a second-round playoff ceiling or blow it up.

I don't know, he was the best rookie guard. I think he can, at worst, be an above average point guard in the NBA if he finds his three point shot. Good enough to lead a team into the WCF with the other pieces

If the Hawks called and offered a package built around Horford and Shroeder for Cousins, does anybody think that deal could be done? Gives the Hawks a potential star. Karl gets a solid vet and a young, emerging talent to mold. Win-win in my book. Maybe the Hawks have to sweeten the pot a little bit..

Of course he's worth more, but that doesn't mean Sacramento is going to get what he's worth. Not with the Karl fiasco going public and Boogie burning the rest down. They're at the mercy of the other teams.
