Ole Miss made a mistake firing him

It's debatable. His ceiling at Ole Miss was pretty low, but in his defense the Ole Miss AD was still in the stone ages during his tenure.

At the time of his firing he wasn't cut out for a SEC job from a grand perspective. He didn't have the PR saavy, recruiting prowess, or "24/7 grind" energy to handle the pressure and be consistently good in the league. Once Eli Manning graduated the cupboard was extremely bare.

He is a great offensive mind and runs a very efficient pro-style offense tho - someone at his age is a perfect fit for a job like Duke.

Its not debatable.
Ole Miss has a losing record in the decade+ since firing him.
Ole Miss only had 3 seasons with more than 8 wins since his departure.
Ole Miss has failed to win more than 1 SEC game 4 times in the same span.
He has more 10 wins seasons at Duke, than Ole Miss has since he was fired.

Ole Miss used his relationship with Peyton to get Eli and dumped him when Eli left. They used him and as an LSU fan thank God they were too stupid to know what they had.

Ole Miss =/= Duke.

Duke is a no pressure job and it's a good fit for Cutcliffe. Ole Miss plays and recruits in the toughest division in CFB.

Ole Miss' lack of winning is a systemic problem, not just related to whoever the head coach is.

Lol, Duke would beat the breaks off that shite-stain of a team Vandy is parading around lately.

Eh, Idk if they get this by default anymore, especially not this coming year and especially not after that wet fart they laid in bowl season.

Yeah, I was sort of speaking in general in the last 10 years. The SEC West has won 5 NCs in that span and has 8 or so NC game appearances, which is ridic.

FWIW, I think it's easy to on surface say firing Cutcliffe was a mistake for OM, but they had a bunch of no-talent assclowns on their roster once Eli left. Cutcliffe couldn't adequately replace any of his decent recruiters and the talent pool was terrible.

Really? I always viewed Mississippi as a Purdue or an Indiana football type program. I assumed that expectations are limited as they hardly are ever up to par with Alabama, Auburn, LSU and typically will have a 6-8 win season.

He won 8 or more twice something Freeze and Nutt both did. His recruiting sucked. It wasn't all his fault however as our AD was the worst.

Yea I don't think there's anything wrong with saying Cutcliffe now would have succeeded at Ole Miss whereas the old Cutcliffe struggled. He used to think he could simply outscheme everyone, whereas now he seems to realize that he still needs bodies to run his system.

All coaches change so lots of times the "so and so was an idiot for firing him is overclown". Saban was a great coach at LSU, but he wasn't the historic coach he's been at Bama. At LSU he left a hot mess on the OL so much so that when he came to Bama he realized that's the most important position in the program and has built it to disgusting levels through recruiting and development.

He wouldn't replace any assistants after going 4-7 and that's the reason Boone used to give him the axe.

I didn't realize OM had such high expectations for their program. I figured they'd be content just making a bowl most years.

Purdue and Indiana have no fan expectations and rarely manage to even fill the stands unless UM or Ohio State are in the stadium

Ole Miss football is weekend long event, generally speaking.

When you're playing Mizzou, Florida, Vandy, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Then you toss in mediocre teams like USCe, Ole miss, and Miss St. The SEC is wayyy ahead of the ACC
Name the ACC's top 4 teams. The ACC is a complete joke Didn't South Carolina just get done beating Clemson 5 years in a row?

Mizzou? Are you joking? You're making fun of a team that would be top 5 in the ACC every single year. Florida? They're down but good lord man, them and FSU would be the premiere teams in the ACC.

The SEC is down and still probably the best conference in the country. The ACC is quite possibly the worst conference in America.

Making a bowl game is the absolute bare minimum. OM pays good money to coaches in sports we care about and like any fans we expect ROI.

Yes, the SEC West is just amazing:

Ohio State 42, Alabama 35
Georgia Tech 49, Miss State 34
TCU 42, Ole Miss 3
Notre Dame 31, LSU 28
Wisconsin 34, Auburn 31
