Could Lebron James be Finals MVP even if Cavs lose?

Mike&Mike were talking about this possibility this morning.
Lebron James could win finals MVP even if Cavs lose
Greenberg says that LBJ could be the Finals MVP even if GS wins by game 5. As long as the games are as close as first two games and as long as LBJ plays like he has in the first two games.
Golic says that it will only be possible if it went to the 7th game.
Thoughts?

My thought is that he should be.
He CLEARLY is the best and most valuable player in The Finals.
But ... if they open it up to Fan Voting ... then JR Smith will likely win.

Are we assuming that Curry keeps shitting the bed? If so, then yes he could

If Golic said it, it surely won't happen. These guys seem to only talk hypothetical about everything and it's ridiculous.

Only possible IMO if it goes 7 and All of GS's wins come from big contributions from different players each time.
Even If Lebron's stat line shits all over Curry's or Klay's, if one of those two are the leading scorer in 2 or 3 GS wins then they will get it.
Trivia break: Anyone know the last time this happened?

Hell no, YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME. You don't win no way you should win MVP.

You will NEVER see a player from the losing team win the series MVP. NEVER.

could and should are different questions
should it happen? yes, probably
could it happen? I don't think so

I would like to see it happen and watch all the LBJ haters go apeshit.

No.
Curry had 26 points and 8 assists on 50% shooting in Game 1.
The series MVP is determined based off of how you play in games that your team wins, for the most part.
If Curry is good to great in all of Golden State's wins, he'll be MVP (assuming they win the series).

I could be wrong, but Jerry West is the only player to ever been named NBA Finals MVP on the losing team, correct?
That being said, LeBron James, despite his FG%, has been the most valuable player this series. It is very difficult to dispute that.
The odds of winning a Finals MVP on a losing team is very low, obviously, so we'll see how the series plays out. I find it hard to believe that James is awarded Finals MVP if Cleveland goes down in five games.
If he can somehow will Cleveland to a Game 7 with the type of impact he's made in these first two games, it'll be awfully difficult to keep the award away from him, win or lose.
ETA: reality says he won't get it, though. Just threw in my own opinion.

Simply speaking, no.
You have to win the series, or at least that's the way it should be.

He might get finals MVP if he averages a triple double line like 30/10/10 and it would have to go 7 games. Also Curry and Thompson would have to not play consistently outstanding.
Jerry West is the only one I can think of that was on losing team in NBA and I think Chuck Howley got Super Bowl MVP on losing team.
