What's the best substitute for protein powder when highly allergic to whey?

A friend is wanting to put on some muscle mass(about 20lb's) but is highly allergic to whey and casein. This is a very thin person that has a hard time putting on weight.
I understand that one doesn't HAVE to have protein powder to gain muscle mass but isn't it much more efficient if you can use it?
If so, what can they use instead for that post workout smoothie and morning smoothie?

How about eating normal food rather than wasting money on supplements? His genetics aren't going to get fixed with supplements.

Thank you Batman and Caterpillar, that's what I was looking for.

Taco Bell and all you can eat sushi buffets. No joke. If he's having a hard time putting anything on, he needs a higher caloric intake. Lots of eggs and chicken obviously, but twice or three times a week getting a dirty bulk meal will help him keep his calories up without having to supplement with shakes.

Hemp protein and egg protein are the correct answers, depending on money, etc.

Hypoallergenic - Brown Rice or Pea Protein Powders are just as good.

How did he survive the first month of life? Whey and casein are the primary proteins in breastmilk and formula. Is there a protein-free alternative to breastmilk or formula? Never heard of that allergy.

No doubt, if he has that allergy!
