Experts expect that between $60 and $80 million worth of bets will be placed on the match in the state of Nevada by the time the fighters touch gloves Saturday night.

quote:

That's double the amount of money ever been wagered on any previous boxing match, said Jay Rood, the VP of Race and Sports at MGM Grand, where the fight will be held.

Prior to this, a 2013 fight between Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez in 2013 was the biggest in terms of bets, with about $25 million riding on that bout, Rood said.

Most of these people don't really like boxing... they like "big events". They like spectacles.

People will tune in who don't give two shits about boxing.

Boxing is dead.

This fight proves it. It is the only fight that anyone has cared about in a decade or more.

It is dead.

What they didn't tell you is that most of that is Floyd betting on himself

Lol dude I grew up watching every big fight and I love the sport, but the most bet on match ever is an awful argument for why the sport isn't dying.

Did you know that the Vegas Sportsbooks just had their most profitable April ever? Didn't have anything to do with boxing, probably the fact that sports betting is much more mainstream.

Is this fight expected to draw more bets and viewers than the super bowl?

You also have more eligible bettors. I'd like to see betting dollars per capita. Keep it in perspective.

The reason this will shatter records is because boxing is dead. Yes this fight is huge but it is the first big fight in forever and people used to like boxing so everyone is going to watch.

Boxing fans better be praying Pac knocks out Floyd. If it's a boring floyd decision, it might mean the end for boxing.

From what I've seen around town, the number will be closer to 80 million if not higher. The thing people aren't taking into consideration is all the mega rich people that are in town for this fight. Way more than Super Bowl weekend and way more than for any fight ever. Many of these mega rich are from Asia, so these people that are normally placing their bets in Macau are doing so here.

Backside of their careers. All it means is that the money is out there but the sport is not putting out boxers that can keep it going.
