Devin Smith on visit with Saints: ‘They think I’m a great player’

I'm not getting our obsession with WRs without a lot of size this offseason. I would think we would be looking at 6'2" and taller guys for the most part, but I guess Payton doesn't see it that way.

We have two potential players with great size already. Aside from Cooks Morgan is the only other speedster we have and he cannot be relied upon. Plus in the NFL speed is better than size.
I don't see us drafting a big receiver unless he also has speed.

Saints team with a lot of speed is very dangerous.

I think it depends a lot on how they plan to use Cooks next year, on which type of WR we are looking at to draft early-mid rounds. Will he be used as more of an Antonio Brown/TY Hilton-type, or will he have more of a Percy Harvin role in our offense?

I think Payton will hold out one more year for a big bodied receiver and go with another speedy guy in either Smith or Dorsett. He uses TEs as the big bodied match up almost just as much as he does with Colston so he probably doesn't see that as a big need right now with Hill and even a guy like Coleman waiting in the wings who's huge

Devin Smith would be a good pick at 31. We need help at receiver more than people want to think and if he's best available I'm all for it.
Hopefully someone like Stephone Anthony is there at 44. We need to stock up on LBs.

A way over the hill Colston and Toon who has struggled to get off the practice squad? We lost far and away our best big red zone target and we really need to address it. Unless the current practice squad guys from last year are showing something.

The next Kenny Stills? This guy is super fast would be a great pickup.
The guy has no business being a top-50 pick. He's a one-route receiver with a lack of size.
They would be foolish to spend one of the first three picks on him.

He's talking about Coleman and Jones not those 2.

Getting rid of Graham and Stills all but guaranteed a WR in the first round.

Yeah, some people act like taking a WR is crazy. But outside of Cooks, who the hell do they have as long-term quality options at WR?
That said, shorter guys are not the best option for this roster. If Jaelen Strong (aka Alshon Jeffery 2.0) were to fall to 31, gimme.

I think the Green Bay game is how we'll use him, especially with spiller here now.
He'll go deep and catch a lot of deep sideline comeback routes. He'll get a good bit of screens his way too

Yeah Jones and Coleman is who I meant. And Toon has shown a little this past year. So we have some guys with size on the roster (and props for mentioning Hill too). For speed we only have Cooks and Morgan and Morgan has shown he can't be fully trusted.
We need speed a lot more than size (and we can get size next year as we still have Colston this year). Speed is also more important to stretch the field.
As for how Cooks will be used, I still think he will be all over but we have Spiller to run a bunch of the really short routes.
