Because I'm not made of money. We do pretty well, and I can't see how anyone can afford to do Disney every year, and still afford to do anything else without being decently wealthy. I don't have 10k to blow on vacations every year.

I'm not denying that Disney would be a great vacation for a family with a kid. It's just not the only vacation. My family did Destin/Ft. Walton every year. Looking back, we could have done a lot of other things. It's just dumb to me to do the same thing over and over again.

For the amount of money spent on a week staying at Disney, you can go to a much nicer beach destination than Gulf Shores or Destin. Save up two years of going to Disney, and you can probably fly the family to Hawaii. I've got nothing against going to Disney once, twice, or maybe even three times for a child. But after that, there's just too much of this world to see to keep going back to Orlando.

They're re-branding/building it into "Disney Springs" right now.

At least I didn't make a thread to bitch about it for no reason I guess

You don't see the difference in the ocean and your backyard? If you don't go during spring break or to a giant condominium, you don't deal with drunk trash.

Tons of tranquil beaches in the gulf, and the white sand is world class. The water isn't Turks and Caicos blue, but its not horrible. Why would you want big waves? Surfer? I love calm ocean water, its peaceful.

But to each his own.

Take the kids Sabi. You will all have a great time. Best vacation I've ever had.

That being said, if I were just going on a vacation with my wife, DW would be far down the list

You can do disney on a "Gulf Shores" budget or a "Hawaii" budget. Just depends on what you want out of it. But Hawaii wouldn't really be just the beach, would it? There are at least other things to do and see. I can understand that.

I've gone as a kid. I've gone as an adult. And I've gone with kids. Each experience is different and I probably enjoyed myself most when it was just adults. There's way more to do than just rides and standing in line, especially in a place like EPCOT with its variety.

FWIW, my parents own a Disney time share. We didn't go yearly, but we would go once every 2 or 3 years. And now I own enough of the timeshare to continue at that pace. Some people would call that a "fanatic". But I know there are those who moved to Florida just for DW so they could go multiple times a month.

Thats you though. The condemnation for people who go to Disney every year should be based on their ability to take different and other vacations as well.

As much as I love Disney and love the fact that we go at least once a year, I also do not thing it should be our only vacation.

Your criticizing other parents with statements like below becuse you can't afford more than one vacation. Alot of families can.

I think you should maybe let your kids experience the rest of what the world has to offer instead of bringing them to Disney every single year.

Or, just continue to do both as long as you continue to enjoy WDW. I like that option better.

Screw Hawaii.

Go to St. Lucia, St. John, or somewhere similar. Hawaii is so touristy and the same amount of money gets you a nicer spot on a closer island with better water with less people.

I hate crowded places other than sporting events though, which is why I will never go to Disney World. I also hate lines, screaming babies that aren't mine, and don't enjoy roller coasters.

I was being hyperbolic to make a point. I don't hate the beach at all.

had to break the 45-45 tie with an upvote. those people are pretty weird.

i totally understand liking to go there. it's fun. but the crazy "disney people" who go once a year and love to show how much they love disney are creepy and weird

And I could keep going because I enjoy Disney and there is TONS to dicuss. Why people who dislike Disney keeps coming back is more of a mystery to me.

Take the kids
I agree, and I laugh my arse off at people that take infants and toddler to swampy Orlando in the middle of the summer under the veil of "creating memories". Kids will not remember any of that stuff. Just admit your own weirdness and be done with it. My parents brought me when I was 6 and my sis was 10. She remembers it well. I have very little recollection.

Bring the kids, but wait until they are about 8 years old.

If kids don't remember early experiences, why have birthday parties, trips to the zoo, or even take them out of the house until they're 8?

This is probably the worst advice in the thread IMO.

At 8 they cannot handle the walking associated with a WDW trip. You're better off either taking them MUCH earlier (free under three years old) and can sit and nap in a stroller. Then, after at least one trip (or more) you see things you like and don't like so when you do go when they have outgrown the stroller you know what to skip and how to make t easier on them.

Watch the miserable families at WDW, they are almost ALWAYS the ones that tried to push their kids too much or have one or more parent/family member who doesn't wan to be there.

Starting to take your kids between like 7-11 in the middle of the summer without major mid day or whole day breaks is very hard to balance for people who know WDW like the back of their hand, much less for someone who isn't in touch with the layout and current happenings.
