Stuff happens (transit strikes leading to long/expensive taxi rides, demagnetized debit cards, empty ATMs, and an endless list of other possibilities)....most of us drive by or fairly close to a branch bank. With a phone call to the bank, you can get a few euros with no more trouble than buying a bag of chips. Peace of mind and flexibility immediately upon arrival--that's what I like.

If you're completely jet lagged, it's nice to simply stagger off the plane and have money in your pocket.
