So I just got an estimate on some fencing and I need some honest advice...

I'm getting about 120 feet of 6' pine privacy fence and I just got quoted around $21.75/foot. Included in that are two gates. The quote is higher than that for cedar.
Am I crazy or does that seem somewhat high?

What did you think it would cost?

Build it yourself. It's not that difficult.

Metal posts? You should definitely get metal posts.

I just redid my fence(and my neighbor's,) in cedar and ran it for about $14/ft., if I were going to do more, and each neighbor that is next to the one I'm doing seems to want there's done, I'd shop for better material prices, the $14/ft. was for materials only, haven't figured out much I'll put in for labor for subsequent "neighbors" yet

That really doesnt sound too bad to me tbh. You could save a good bit by doing it yourself. It's really not that hard if you rent an auger and get a friend to help.

Galvanized pipe posts or wood?

That's absurdly high for 6' pine!

That would be a steal in Denver, it is over $30 a foot here. I couldn't believe how insanely high fencing is. I built a 15' section myself and it came out to about $14 a foot I think with screws, concrete, and lumber.

My RSMeans book lists bare costs of 6' treated pine fencing at $27.50 per linear foot

I just had 200LF of #1 grade cedar with heavy gauge steel posts board on board installed for $5800. This included 1 standard gate and 1 double gate to get cars in or out. Guy double posted both gates and set posts 3.5' down. Also included pressure treated 2x6 kick board and cedar trim on top. Looks great.
I'm in Dallas area BTW. I think $5800 was a decent price for the quality of the fence.

If you live in Louisiana, you should make sure you know what wood is best for the humidity and termites and the like!
Go for cedar if it's cheaper unless the pine is guaranteed to withstand all of that!

I use fallen trees as my privacy fence, trashy but cheap
