Cop Who Shot at Dog and Missed, Killing Mother Instead Will Not Be Charged

quote:

The Des Moines County District Attorney’s Office has decided not to file charges against a police officer who shot and killed an innocent, unarmed woman at her home.

quote:

Reports show Gabriel Steele was putting the couple’s 4-year-old son into their vehicle when he and Autumn Steele began arguing. The couple’s dog came from inside the house and started barking. Witnesses at the scene reported that the dog was not acting aggressively, but Officer Jesse Hill chose to escalate the situation by shooting at the dog. The officer could not maintain his balance as he fired his weapon repeatedly, but continued firing even after he fell onto the ground.

The officer missed the dog, but one shot fired by the officer while he was on the ground struck Autumn Steele in the chest. She was eventually taken to the Great River Medical Center where she died from her injuries.

Officer Hill was immediately placed on paid administrative leave following the killing. It is not yet known whether the officer will return to work following the District Attorney’s decision to file no charges against him.

And once again, the police clear themselves of any wrongdoing.

I don't what is worse: firing at the dog in the first place, or the gross incompetence with a firearm.

She was in the way of the bullet. Shouldn't be his fault.

That family of the woman is gonna get paid big in a lawsuit I'm sure. Still fricked up that the officer will suffer no repercussions for his careless actions though.

Cue the blue line telling us that this is an isolated incident, and that she was tPOS with a record. They have a tough job, and if you don't like what they are doing, you should change it from within.

Also- I seriously doubt the neighbors will call the cops abt a dog ever again. Or maybe they will if they don't like them.

The cop is black so shouldn't the media narrative be " black cop kills unarmed white lady while trying to kill racist dog" ?

Authorities said Hill was treated at the Great River Medical Center for at least one dog bite, and was later released.

The Associated Press reported that Bevers (DA) said her decision was supported by body camera evidence, witness statements and reports from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. Hill had to make an instantaneous decision as the threat was occurring, Bevers said.

quote:

Klein (family attorney) said Bevers ignored a part of Iowa law that says involuntary manslaughter, as an aggravated misdemeanor, is punishable “when the person unintentionally causes the death of another person by the commission of an act in a manner likely to cause death or serious injury.”

Local story

Sounds like involuntary manslaughter to me...

Sounds just like the cop shooting at a snake in a birdhouse and killed a 10yr old boy fishing with his grandpa.

Whether or not he was right or wrong in shooting the dog.

I would gun the POS down in front of his house and claim insanity.
