According to King's novel, the man in the tuxedo is a multimillionaire playboy by the name of Harry Derwent. The figure in the animal suit is his male lover.
This brief scene is important for several reasons. Firstly, it recalls a moment at the beginning of the film. In this early scene, Danny is examined by a doctor. He lies on his bed, covering his crotch. Behind him is a huge bear shaped pillow. The pillow, or stuffed animal, has the same nose, ears, colour and oval shape as the bear suit, as well as eyes which mirror the elevator floor indicators.
Note that the first time we see Harry Derwent, he is actually lying down exactly as Danny is. But whilst Danny protectively covers his crotch, Derwent has his partner’s face buried in his loins. It is only when Wendy appears that both men sit upright

I wish Stanley Kubrick were still alive.

Poltergeist came out during a special time in my life. Same time Indiana Jones, ET, Ghostbusters, and The Goonies came out. They were all movies that were entertaining for kids but also scared adults.

Saw some people asking about the new clown.

I just watched the trailer. God this movie looks really bad.

I really don't see how anyone has an adult phobia of clowns.

This guy messed up a lot of kids in the 80's.

He was my favorite part of the film

Really? I thought it looked pretty damn legit.

I sort of do. I'm not "scared" of clowns, but they definitely do weird me out a good bit. Partly because of It, sure, but also just because of their sort of weirdness/creepiness in general.

Duh.

They've remade every imaginable - and some unimaginable - movie.

I have no problem with this. Loved the original, and hopefully this will be done right

All I saw in that trailer was a compilation of shite that has been done a million times. A little girl who talks to the dead, a family moves into a new house that's haunted, electronics go haywire, closet door opens by itself, a scary clown, a girl in the corner who suddenly turns her head and she has a scary face, I could go on. And WTF were those weird eyes in the closet that were shaking around like Jim Henson puppets? LOL. Another "we can't call the cops, because they'll think we did it" gag. And don't get me started on the CGI.
Horror is my favorite genre for movies, and I've seen a lot of them. This is just a generic cash grab disguised as a real movie. A cash in on the Poltergeist franchise. And they even signed Sam Rockwall in an attempt to give it some credibility. I'm not intrigued in the least bit.

Nothing is more annoying than the trailer critic. This is the guy that knows exactly how good the movie will be from a 90 second preview.

ETA: How can you possibly say the movie will be good based on that shite show of a trailer? I broke down the trailer and gave my OPINION of what was presented to me. The movie may be good, but what I've seen so far is shite. That's my opinion.

But to be fair the original Poltergeist had a lot of the things you claim are cliches like the scary kids and the clown.

quote:But in 1982 it was new material. That's the problem with remaking horror movies. Action movies can be remade with better special effects. Horror movies are only good if they are unique in story telling or design. I will give it a chance like I would anything, but I have no hope for this.
But to be fair the original Poltergeist had a lot of the things you claim are cliches like the scary kids and the clown.
And to make it worse, it looks like they took the story elements from Poltergeist and have presented them in such a way that every horror movie is doing these days, as I explained in my assessment. Show us something new or don't even fricking try.
