Deadline reports that writer Jay Basu, who is helping Universal with their monster-focused cinematic universe, has been tapped by Sony Pictures to write their adaptation of Metal Gear Solid.
The Konami video game series follows Solid Snake, a retired soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons disposal facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from Foxhound, a renegade special forces unit. He attempts to liberate their two hostages, the head of DARPA and the president of a major arms manufacturer, and stops the terrorists from launching a nuclear strike. Created by Hideo Kojima, the series has produced 10 games in the franchise and sold over 30 million copies.
Spider-Man‘s Avi Arad and his son Ari Arad are attached to produce with The Kings of Summer and Kong: Skull Island‘s Jordan Vogt-Roberts set to direct.
The new game in the video game franchise, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, will be available on September 1.

Video game movies always work out, I can't wait to see it.

Should let David Hayter write it

Please let this NOT happen.

do not want
Games are pretty much a movie anyways, so this will be geared towards the non-video game crowd, which means an action game with some of the same names.
They'll throw in the cardboard box for fan service, and there will be a uber corny "snake....Snake.....SNAAAAAAAAAAAKE" scene that will make me puke.

Isn't this the 5th time that Sony Pictures has reached a deal for a Metal Gear Solid film since 2006?
If we were to cast it though, it would have to go like this:
Solid Snake/Liquid Snake: Tom Hiddleston (he can pretty much mimic any voice)
Roy Campbell: Mark Strong
Hal Emmerich/Otacon: Neil Patrick Harris
Revolver Ocelot: Hugo Weaving
Meryl Silverburgh: Adrienne Palicki
Grey Fox: Ray Park
Naomi Hunter: Isla Fisher (hair dyed black)
David Hayter makes a cameo as Johnny, the Soldier that keeps shitting his pants.
For the others, you can go with relative unknowns:
Vulcan Raven (Large Inuit or other Native American with tattoos)
Psycho Mantis (Tall skinny man with a raspy voice)
Donald Anderson/Decoy Octopus (Generic black actor who can play the president of a company - but has to look like whoever they would cast as SIGINT if they make Snake Eater a film)
Mei Ling (not as well known young Sino-American actress)
Sniper Wolf (Blonde Eastern European model with a bit of muscle tone)

I've been wanting to see this for a long time. It could be an epic trilogy but I have little faith in the studio to make this good.

Or just watch a two hour long cut scene on the game.
