Same here. My dad and 3 Uncles owned a Citation V. It was used mostly for their business and when they weren't using it was rented as a charter to some friends.
My uncle was the pilot but they sold it a few years after he took on a full time gig with Southwest. I guess having to pay for a full time pilot and upkeep was too costly.

I would love to have a 172 or at best a Cherokee six by the time I'm 45. I keep seeing decent used ones for around 40-50k.
The upkeep on those smaller Lycoming and Continental engines ins't that bad, they are fixed gear, avionics can be easily upgraded. Hell if you want to be cheap you can get virtual terrain on an iPad and save $25k instead of the Garmin.
Getting a used plane is in the realm of the average person.
