That's so true. Those nerdy little jackholes who never played a lick but get to vote for the HOF probably wouldn't vote him in.

My feelings as well. I'd have more sympathy for him if he hadn't lied about it for so long.

Those were my feelings in the beginning, but I think it's time to lift the ban. Pete could make it a hell of a lot easier if he would say that during his lifetime he made some mistakes (like we all have) and he's sorry for those mistakes. Nothing beyond that is required in my mind.

Lifelong reds fans here. He bet on the reds while managing. He knew what he was doing. Ban should not be lifted.

If they banned PED using players today, there would be no players going into the hall except players from Pete's era.

That's the rub for sure. But we do know he always bet ON his team. The problem there is, betting on the team you manage to win because you know the matchup is favorable that day AND you can pull out the stops to make sure you win that day even at the expense of the following days to come.

Now, we know he is a a compulsive gambler. So, did he bet every single day? If he did bet every day AND always bet the Reds, that does take away the stink/guilt of manipulating his own games to win the bets.

I'm a lifelong Reds fan also, and I think the ban should be lifted. He never bet against the Reds. No throwing games or any of that. Free Pete!!!!!!

I wonder how LSU fans would feel if Les Miles bet on LSU football games, refuse to admit his guilt initially, admit his guilt 20 years later to sell a book, and show no contrition for what he did. I bet the sentiment on these boards would be very different.

Then he should be in. I recognize gambling is not allowed, but at least it was only to win! Maybe lift this at some point.

I'll never forgive him for admitting he bet on baseball on like the morning of the 2003 BCS title game, totally usurping the attention LSU should have gotten.

What Rose did to Ray Fosse in the All Star game was inexcusable but the arrogance of Clemens, Bonds, Sosa and McGwire to use PED's is more shameful. MLB turned a blind eye to this corruption while it was bringing fans to the ballparks. That is sinister shite right there but let's frick Pete Rose because he is the Devil ?

Cheating is using Steriods and profiting from it. Rose was never implicated in using Roids.,time for the commissioner to absolve Rose and honor this man. There are plenty if sinners in the Hall. Pete has done his time . Baseball should allow Rose to help players who have problems with addictions and such.

While I agree that Maddux should have been unanimously elected into the hall, the reason he wasn't is that voters are only allowed to vote for 10 players in a given year. This means that some writers left off Maddux knowing he would be in the Hall regardless of their vote and decided to vote for a borderline player.

Jayson Stark does a pretty good writeup about it: LINK

This. frick Pete Rose.
And as far as the writers not voting him in the HOF even if MLB allows him back, good for them.
