Let Pete in!!
quote:
Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred says he has received a formal request from Pete Rose asking that his lifetime ban be lifted and that he will consider the all-time hits leader's request "on its merits."
quote:
"I want to make sure I understand all of the details of the Dowd Report and Commissioner [Bart] Giamatti's decision and the agreement that was ultimately reached," Manfred said after a meeting with Los Angeles Dodgers players in Arizona on Monday morning. "I want to hear what Pete has to say, and I'll make a decision once I've done that."
quote:
Any time I see him, I love seeing him," Mattingly said. "Obviously, as a kid, I loved Pete and the way he played. I'm not going to get into all the politics and everything that goes along with that, but I love Pete and I think Pete's a great player."
Let Pete in!!

I'm fine with this as long as it's posthumous.

Pete never did steroids. The man has been punished enough. Put the man in the Hall.
If McGwire can be in baseball, so should Pete.

Yep. They'll let him in as soon as he dies.

What part of "lifetime" does this a-hole not understand?

If you've ever been to Cooperstown, You'd understand why it's a complete farce that he's not allowed in the Hall. The museum every paying customer walks through to get to the Hall is chock full of Pete Rose memorabilia. Jersey's, bats, record-breaking ball, cleats, autographs, etc, etc. But they can't put the man's plaque on a wall.
He holds one of the most respectable records that may never be broken.

I'm torn on this. I do think he's paid enough of a price and he should be let in. On the other hand Pete still seems like a swarmy as frick dude with shite morals. So i really don't feel bad for him.

My feelings as well. I'd have more sympathy for him if he hadn't lied about it for so long.

If the ban was lifted, is it even a guarantee that the writers would vote him into the HOF?

His MLB ban should not be lifted (meaning he should stay unemployable w/r/t to MLB).
I wouldn't have a problem with him being enshrined as a player, though (since everything we know about happened after he retired).

Baseball is a joke for keeping Pete out and leaving all the steroid users on the HOF ballot.

Considering someone left Maddux off the ballot because he played in the steroid era, I wouldn't put it past the baseball writers to do anything. A lot of them are functional idiots.
