Duke also beat notre dame and state by 30 points, granted they lost to nd the other day. It's not nearly as clear cut as you make it sound.

Iowa state got hosed, beat three tournament teams in three days and rewarded with a 3 seed.

From this discussion with the NCAA guy, SOS is a big factor. It doesn't matter if you beat any of those teams, but play 15 top 50 teams and you are in.

What did Duke do to get seeded over UVA? Well they beat them on the road in their only match-up for one. They also had more quality wins, and didn't drop 2 of their last 3 while their best player has looked like a shell of what he was prior to two injuries (the Kenyon Martin effect). UVA has only one thing over Duke, the lower number of losses.
Duke has more quality wins than any other team in the country. Find a way how that's wrong, Peej. They also have more losses than the other 5 teams, obviously. I think they were by far the highest seed to place, in terms of getting people happy. The people who count losses would be mad if Duke was a 1. The people going after quality wins would be mad if Duke wasn't a 1.
KU was the clear cut worst of the 2 seeds. Everyone knows that there was only one 2 seed that was up for grabs today. We were all guessing between a few teams. I had ISU/ND/KU/MD as the four finalists. UK benefits from getting KU, without Alexander, as their 2. They're the worst 2 seed.
However, UK got screwed in one huge way. They got the best 4 in the tournament. Duke got by far the best 5. In other words, the top 2 seeds (play-in games) got the hardest Sweet 16 match-ups, which is surprising. UK and Duke also got the two best 3 seeds. Meanwhile, the West got the best 2 seed, but seems weaker in terms of upsets. I think that'll be a straight Wisc-AZ Elite 8 game.
