We would have to eat the bonus, somewhere around 8 million dollars, but it would free up the 18+ million dollar salary.

I personally don't think they're ready to move on from Drew yet. I know i'm not...

This is getting ridiculous.

Trading away your healthy HOF QB is how you become the Browns

We can find a QB with a top 3 pick next season.

Oh sure, because it's that easy....

How many teams have done it? Seattle and Indy... over the last half decade... that's really it. Cam Newton, maybe, if you go back a little further?

come on now, all the draft picks and future cap space does sound nice, but Brees is the heart of this team and a future hall of famer with a handful of years left...you don't make the moves we have made to get rid of the cornerstone of the football team

Agreed. I really don't see the need to move him (financial reasons aside) as we've won with lesser known talent before. We've just gotta shore up the offensive line (which Unger helps there) and add some talent through the draft. This just seems to be way too drastic in my opinion. Though, I guess as a GM you should be willing to take every call.

Moves like this suck, but they could be the pieces needed to create a monster team. Think about 4 firsts this year, and a top 3-5 pick next year.

Running your business based on emotion, nostalgia, and feelings is how you end up eating a 28 million dollar salary with no return on it.

The Colts did it with Manning and it seems to be working out great for the Colts

if we are in WIN NOW mode which we should be, Drew aint going anywhere

frick we were just in the playoffs the year before and we were literally 3-4 plays away from winning 11 games instead of 7 last year despite how bad we sucked.

Brees is the only chance we have at making the playoffs and going on a run in the next 2 seasons…can't get rid of him

Tempting but no thanks. I'm not ready to go back to pre 2006 yet.

Zach will always require a top notch o-line but i think he's shown he can be a serviceable to average QB in the league.

that's the exception to the rule and they knew they had the top pick with Andrew Luck the following season

Yeah, but the Colts had Andrew Luck waiting for them. We'd be picking at #12 with a much, much worse QB class.

No return on it? We have a hall of fame QB.

Not to mention that our cap situation going forward is completely fine, and he's likely to get an extension next year to lower his cap hit for the following 2 seasons.

The Colts had Andrew Luck waiting for them, and Payton Manning was coming off a possible career ending injury with multiple surgeries.

It isn't the same situation.

You guys that want to get rid of Brees for unproven draft picks are ridiculous! Brees will keep this team in contention for 4-5 more years as long as he gets an O-line and it looks like we are FINALLY ready to address that. Some of you have really short memories. Like someone above said you ready to go back to pre 2006? Aaaron Brooks anyone?
