My son is on the autism spectrum, but not to the extent these guys are. Nice to find them something they enjoy doing and making some money for themselves.

If your son has autism you should know that calling them autistic is a bad thing these days, the correct term is "a person with autism".

Nice post. Have two stepsons on the spectrum. One is very high functioning (close to the ADD line that you mentioned with your son), and the older is very low functioning and nonverbal.

I may end up having to do something similar to this in 10-15 years to give our oldest something to do or purpose.

What a great thing he's doing there for those guys.

Also, genius business strategy.

I mean, how could you live in that town and not get your car washed there?

That's awesome. Franchise that. Cut into that 90% as much as possible!

AWESOME! I'd pay extra to have my car washed there. I would much prefer this over gov assistance.

Posted this vid on another board and this was one of the replies:
quote:

When I worked at Walgreens their VP of Supply Chain was in a similar situation to this family. He had an autistic child that was a couple years from aging out of the school system so he partnered with Seimens to design a distribution center that could operate at peak performance with a largely disabled workforce. They now have three such DCs. The first was in Anderson, SC, which is the town in which the story that became the movie Radio took place. That quickly became and continues to be the best DC in the company and about 35% of the workforce are cognitively disabled and another 10% are physically disabled.

It's great to hear about there being viable options out there.
