Fans support their teams, they don't constantly tear them down.

Bad fans do that.......... Brah

10th in total offense, 12th in points. Bad, but not last.

Its actually 9th and 13th, respectively.

But yeah, lets pile it on Chavis some more about how he didn't get his job done.

A defenses job is to stop the offense no matter the score

so then would it be safe to say that it is the offenses job to score, no matter the score?

If everyone calling me a shite fan is so happy to see Chavis gone, where were the daily threads calling for Chavis to be fired the last 6 seasons? Everyone seemed pretty content with the job he was doing while he was here.

I don't think anyone is "over-the-moon" that Chavis is gone, he is a great DC and our D has been one of the best under him. However, that doesn't mean he is without his own faults; i.e. 2-minute drill and mobile-QBs not named Johnny Manziel.

I can accept that he left for the money, good for him, doesn't make him any less of of a d-bag for the way he went about it.

1) I definitely don't want to be associated with the people that call themselves "fans" if being a "fan" means I have to hate our DC who saved our arse on multiple occasions merely because he left to go to a division rival. (EDIT: then again, the vast majority of the people on here consider bama LSUs biggest rival merely because our former coach coaches there, so I don't know why I am so surprised)

It's part of the job man. Every player/coach understands that this is a team game...and that sometimes, offenses will struggle scoring points or defenses will give up more points than expected.

It's hilarious to think that Chavis would be offended by the fact that the offense was not good last year. It's as dumb as a coordinator leaving because he wants to win more.

If anything, Chavis LOVED being held up as a hero. He LOVED that his defenses were viewed as the glue to these teams.

Chavis left because his feelings were hurt by LSU/Alleva during the contract renewal process. And, then A&M showed him some love. It was astonishingly immature and petty for a man who has been in the coaching game for so long and who pretty much has the most loyal boss imaginable.

It is my opinion that Chavis will regret this move before it is over.

And so if your defense finishes #1 in the conference, while the offense finished #14, then how is it that the defense is to blame?

I'm not blaming the d for last season. Maybe for 2 games, but I sure can blame the d not doing enough in 2013.

He felt concern that Miles may be on the way out and wanted job security which Alleva would not give him.

It is really that simple.

id say thats half of it, the other half is the unnecessary strain...i think its totally legit...and honestly i would love to be a fly on the wall when (hopefully) he said something to Miles somewhere along the lines of "throw the fricking Ball genius" "they have 8-9 men in the box and you have NFL caliber WR's are you smoking crack?"

WTF??? Our WRs may turn out that way but last year you had Dural and bunch of freshman out there. And the biggest problem was not having a QB capable of throwing the ball consistently and at times when he was consistent those "NFL caliber WRs" were dropping passes. The offense was just an overall shite show last year.

compared to how many times the offense let down the defense in six years?

I swear, its like some of you have become so complacent with how bad our offense is that the defense must simply accept it and pick up the slack.

also, I think when your "best offense in school history" *not even sure if thats accurate* is still 6th best in the conference and 35th in the country then that speaks volumes about your program in general.

not a bad post there

meh, we had one that was able, he just didnt see the field. and thats on miles and cameron...leading to the comment of "unnecessary strain" Even Chavis knew that Harris should have been played all along...

I think time will show you that any decent DC can perform well at LSU with the talent we bring in.
Chavis was just average in late game situations where his defense needed to preserve the win , especially big games. How tht makes him one of the best dC's in th country, in your mind, is beyond me.
His "specialty" was supposed to be LBers, yet we were forced to watch Weller underperform for over a year.

I think we have different barometers on how we judge a great DC. A great coach gets his players to perform at or above expectations. Like our db coach.

It was too big for Harris last year. Terrance Magee told you that in one of his interviews after the Auburn debacle. He could barely even speak in the huddle. That on top of him not spending the time needed to learn the system just killed him last year.

Yeah. That makes sense. He goes from a ground control situation with superior players where his defense is on the field TWENTY-SEVEN MINUTES A GAME to a defense with far less talent and depth that has a league-low time of possession of 26:17 per game (125th in NCAA only three teams worse in cfb). A SEVEN MINUTE SWING.

Chavis is spinning his donut-eating, no people-skills arse off. His ego was hurt, he tantrumed like a three year old boy, boxed himself in a corner, burned his bridges and has been spinning like a debutante ever since.

Nothing but Tiger bait.

Sure his defenses will have worse stats at TAM than at LSU, but, from his point of view, so what. Seems he felt to much was placed on his defense to win games. Didn't get much help from the offense at LSU.

So he's frustrated with the QB play to paraphrase. Bottom line is the SEC needs to put in place a tampering rule if one does not already exist. Schools should have to seek permission to speak with prospective coaches by rule.

I'm OK with him leaving, but it's the way it was done. Contacting a coach before a bowl game without getting any permission to speak with the coach at all? To boot, LSU went to bat to get them in the SEC from what I heard this morning on the radio.
