Family time comes early for bald eagles, which nest in the first months of the new year.
Louisiana now ranks as one of the population centers for bald eagles, with only Florida hosting more eagle nests annually. The number of nesting pairs in Louisiana now has surpassed 350.

Biologists with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries recently surveyed 647 nests, which included recently-discovered nests and ones from past years. The survey found roughly 356 were active with eggs, young, and adults tending the nests.

I see at least one basically every time I'm out and about. All our area lakes have them, and now the Red/Buhlow. TB is full.

I had one fly abt 10 ft over my truck last week driving across the spillway on I-10,

Was pretty cool to see.

It looks like there is a new nest around the I-10/310 interchange. The one that has been there for years is still there, but there is another nest on the edge of the treeline (farthest from 310). It's quite a bit farther from I-10, so I haven't been able to verify if it's an eagle nest, but it's really large. The only other bird that I've seen build one that large is an osprey.

Best sighting of a Bald Eagle was leaving the Blind River bar heading to Lake Maurepas, there was one that flew about 10ft directly over my boat for about a mile... It was a pretty awesome sight...

They are everywhere at Toledo Bend. Golden eagles, too. I see several everytime I go.

Saw one this year duck hunting in Houma. Swooped down and grabbed a big ole' gray that we shot right out of the water. Pretty amazing.

We had one hang out all day a couple weeks back at Lexington Estates off Nicholson in BR. We were excavating and filling a large ditch. I guess he was hanging out looking for an easy rodent meal as they exited the ditch. He would be within 30-50 yards of the equipment at times.

I'm actually surprised that its only this many. As often as I see them when I'm at home, I figured they were freakin' everywhere.
