They started dropping and yelling but it's a tad bit late TLEE and his 9 bout to regulate.

Put wife and kids in one room, have wife call 911. Turn on every light I can in the unoccupied rooms. Set the home security system off so the siren alarms and it calls the police (just in case wife gets a stupid 911 dispatcher). Hope that the alarm is enough to scare them away. Have shotgun in one hand and pistol in the other & wait to lay waste to any motherfricker stupid enough to enter my house.

Grab pistol in bedroom, run across house to get to kids rooms, have another pistol there.

That would take more than 30 seconds if you are being woken up out of a deep sleep at 2am - not to mention how long it would take to wake up the wife and get her to clearly understand what was happening.
That process alone would take at least 15 seconds I would think.

By the way this exact senecio happened to my elderly aunt. She heard them trying to get thru her bedroom window. Walked to the kitchen and called the cops. Cop got there about 5 minutes later and they walk back to here bedroom, kinda assuming they are gone. One jumps out of the closet and has a shoot out with the cop, one jumps out from under the bed and goes back out the window. Cop hits the shooter who goes back out the window. 3 bad guys get away, to be caught later. Cop dies right there in her room. Bad deal

Grab AR with extra mag (mounted overhead in my closet) & Glock 19 (bedside table). Wake up GF and tell her to do what we've practiced for, which is position her behind bed in back corner of bedroom with shotgun aimed at the door and tell her to get on speaker phone with 911. Walk out of bedroom and lock door and get on a knee in the hallway right outside of room. There is one hallway that gets to my bedroom and Im at the end of it so I just sit and wait. Instruct GF to shoot anyone that comes through door besides me.
