Honestly that wouldn't have been a bad strategy to keep the game competitive. Just flip the court and have them try to score for the other team. Then they'd have had normal offense and defense. Just when each scores give the points to the other team. would have been bizarre.

This is exactly what the refs should have allowed. The result would have been two teams trying to score goals with the opponents having to defend.
