For the SBO's out there, how do you handle credit card payments? I RARELY do sales that require cc payments but need to have the capability.

I looked at Square but that 3.5% processing fee seems high.

Yikes I didn't realize they were that high. I'm not an SBO but pretty smart dude.
Set minimum purchase limits on your product/service. Increase prices 3% or so. Or simply do like some Chevrons(that fricker on Siegen) and charge higher price for CC transactions.

If you don't take Amex I am not coming back to you unless you have a superior product (i.e. Johnny's pizza )

Specs I assume raises their prices. And you save 5% by using cash or debit

Pretty smart imo. I always feel like I'm getting a deal

I'm not a small business owner but still rock the Square credit card reader on the I6+ Baw. Never know when you gotta collect.

Check with National Bankcard and Sage. They have similar products as the Square, but better pricing.

Also, check "best credit card processing companies" and you should get a good list of companies that includes fees. Important to have one with no cancellation fees

Do your research, adjust your pricing up to the highest average to cover your cc service fees. Offer cash discount.....

How much do you process monthly? That's all that matters when deciding. I'm part owner in an ISO for first data. I can help with your questions

Paying 3.5% on occasion might be cheaper than signing a contract and paying the monthly gateway fees and such that typically come with a merchant account depending on your average transaction size.

Capital One Spark Pay.

Its what I use at farmer's markets and trade shows. Not sure what your typical transaction is but mine is on the small end. let me know if you are interested and Ill send you more information.

eta: I pay between 1.95% and 2.5% depending on the transaction (credit, debit, amex, etc.)

We have very few customers that pay by credit card. I do my billing through Freshbooks and they handle the credit card transaction for me. They charge 2.9% plus $.30 per transaction for Visa and Mastercard and 3.5% plus $.30 per transaction for American Express. At this point I know which customers prefer to pay by credit card so I adjust my pricing accordingly. I consider the fees high but I'm currently doing less than 10 transactions a year via credit card.

We do projects that we bid on and complete so I can treat everyone uniquely. Someone who is selling widgets to everyone may not be able to do this without eating the fees.

I am also a small business owner who does not allow credit card payment. I just save up my cash and cheques until the end of the month and have them delivered to the banker via pony express. I have the deposit receipt sent back via telegraph.
