(Not Common Core)-- Why are they teaching math this way?

1st grade:
Directions: use a doubles fact or a doubles plus one fact to help you solve the answer.
Bob has 2 dogs
Bob gets 2 more dogs
How many dogs does Bob have?
Cindy has 5 apples
Cindy picks 6 more apples.
How many apples does Cindy have now?
Directions:
Find the addends and subtrahend.
6 - __ = 2
3 + __ = 10
Directions:
Draw a number line to help you find the answer.
4 + 2 = __
9 + 5 = __
2nd grade
Directions: Use grouping to solve. Show your work.

Government controls education
The dumber one is, the more they rely on government
Government has a vested interest in making the future generations dumb because it means more dumb people to rely on government, which will allow government to get larger and have more power/control.

IDK, but trying to help my 2nd grader with homework is frustrating as frick. I told my wife that I'm done with math homework....I can help with everything else but she has to help with math

I don't understand it. I feel like it takes more work than it is worth and honestly am not sure what it is teaching the kids.

We had one problem that said something like this:

What is that teaching them? How is that even Math?

Because somewhere a bureaucrat w/ a liberal arts degree decided to change the way people do math so they feel useful and good about themselves. When your only tool is a hammer ( i.e "change") everything looks like a nail
