My Granddad caught this thing 50+ years ago when he lived in South America. It has hung on the wall over his desk since then. I asked for it when they were clearing out his old house. He had a full body mount as well but it was broken during shipping.

I'd like to have it restored somewhat. Not sure how much can be done to it. Might hang it down at the cabin at the lake and tell newbies I caught it off the dock.

I'd love to try and convince my wife to hang that up in the house.

It can definitely be restored. Just make sure that you take it to a competent, well respected taxidermist. New eyes, fill in shrunken areas, airbrush the correct colors, etc. It will look great, but it sure won't resemble what you have now. And therein lies the problem. It's kind of like reblueing an old, old gun. Do you want the original finish for the nostalgia and memories or do you want this piranha to look modern and new? Tough call. I don't think I would re-do it. Pow Pow caught it and this mount (or what's left of it) is reflective of "back in the day".
