Where are you at? Coral Connection used to have live sand for $1/lb. ricks reef in Metairie used to as well- not sure if that one is still open though.

I'm in Watson. Been out of the saltwater aquarium hobby for at least a decade but at one time i had 5 tanks in my house. One was 190 gallons with a Leopard Shark in it.

My 200 reef was a casualty in my divorce. Ex sold it out from under me for pennies.
I have been planning to get back into it but just haven't found the right deal. Looks like you did though!

I've got a 65 gallon one that's set up that you're more than welcome to.
I hate that thing now.

That's why i only use RO/DI filtered water.

That's what I use. I have a RO/DI filter. I think I got it from a piece of coral I bought from a local store.

Same here; was really big into them about 10 years ago, but broke down my last one about 3 years ago.
I plan on getting back into it, and every once and awhile find myself browsing lareefclub for a steal!
Most I had at one time was 4; had a lot more disposable income then though!

All algae is opportunistic. One minor imbalance in the tank and it can take hold. It's nearly impossible to avoid it. You can only try to minimize it.

quick question for those in the know. It's been over a decade since i've been into saltwater aquariums and i'm doing this one way different than previous setups simply because of the equipment and items that came with the deal.
The "live rock" really isn't alive anymore. He had it sitting in a plastic bin in his shed for 3 months.Rocks weren't even sitting in water. Is there a way i can reseed the rocks? Also,i keep hearing about this miracle mud for the refugium. He had pieces of crushed coral with live sand substrate. What is the proper way to set up this sump? It's a 16 gallon Pro Clear. I t also has a small fluorescent fixture that holds a 16 watt power compact bulb. I just bought a 10,000 k Coralife bulb for it.Also picked up a new 400 gph pump.
Thanks for any help you can give.

I have no help to offer, but a saltwater tank has been something I've wanted for awhile, but I don't have the housing layout for it.

BTW,I have all the rock in a big bin with a skimmer and some reef jets in there. I know it's not cycling the rocks but it is keeping them in clean moving saltwater for the time being.
BTW. Making R/O water as we speek.
