Raleigh, NC Tigers need advice!!!

Just signed the offer letter I will be moving to Raleigh in the next 2 weeks. So long Northern Virginia/DC traffic. How many North Carolina Tigers we got in the area? I need to know where I shold be looking to live. So any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Not stuck in Virginia anymore, huh? Welcome to the Triangle! I don't live there anymore, but I'm from the area. If traffic is your big concern, you may want to avoid having to drive by Research Triangle Park, between Durham and Raleigh on I-40. There are some new toll roads (540 and 147 south of I-40) being built through Cary and Apex, which if you don't mind paying, should cut down on traffic. And from my experience, 440 is a pain in terms of traffic, though they're working to fix that.

There's not alot of us here, but we do have an LSU Carolinas Alumni base out of Charlotte. There should be a solid amount in Raleigh though.

Raleigh is awesome. Google fiber is coming. Sucks to be a LSU/Saints fan there though. Decent amount of Bama fans for some reason (bandwagon). Panthers fans are also super bandwagon.
Live in cary or north raleigh with the rest of the suburbanites. Or for a real answer, what's your age,sex, and relationship status?

Depends on where you work, what kind of neighborhood you want, schools, etc.
I'm in central Raleigh, near NC State. Only been here 5 years, so we still have "new eyes" for the city.
Like just about any town, you'll find more for your money out in the burbs. Wake Forest, Cary, Apex, North Raleigh all have nice neighborhoods and mostly good schools. And, compared to the NVa traffic, traffic is generally not bad.
One note on the Apex/Garner/Fuquay area, which is south of town - research carefully the plans for the southern stretch of I-540. They haven't finalized plans, and you don't want to end up living 20ft from the highway in 10 years.
We live in-town just because we like more established neighborhoods over 'burbs and like the energy of being near downtown. Very pretty, rolling, wooded streets. But fairly expensive houses. The transformation of downtown over the last few years has been awesome.
Overall - a very pleasant, vibrant and beautiful city at a manageable size. Welcome!

Raleigh is a great city. Not too big, but not too small. North Raleigh is the place for suburbs, but it's pricey. Some mentioned Cary, but also pricey and full of Yankees. Also starting g to fill up with Indians. Inside the loop for the young professional crowd in condos. Surrounding towns Apex and Holly Springs are nice and more reasonably priced. Mostly it all boils down to how much you.can afford and where you work.

27607 here. Wake County is pretty well spread out. Lots of good places to live within the county. Although nothing like NOVA with traffic, it can be a bitch depending on time of day and location that you need to travel. I really like Raleigh and NC. It has a small town feel but also has a decent up and coming downtown. Midtown/North Hills is really nice. Overall a really nice, clean, and safe city. I love NC. 3 hours to the beach and 3 hours to the mountains, being in Raleigh puts you right in the middle of the state and the ability to choose your own fun. As an avid sportsman, I love the coast and its inshore/offshore fishing and a few very good hunts in the mountains and at the coast. Good place.

Move west into the mountains and come eat "crayfish" with me at 2600 feet haha. Asheville has a pretty big LSU alumni/fan base and its a better city than Raleigh. As far as I have seen there is a pretty big LSU following in NC. They even hate Saban!

I am going to be an IT Consultant down there. I appreciate all of the tips for down there. Especially the Saints Bar. Didn't go to LSU, from Avoyelles Parish and decided to serve my country after high school.

Looking at getting a house off of 401 just north of 540. It should put me about 8 miles from work. Time to spend some time getting lost, seems to be the best way for me to find my way around a new area. Thanks for all tips folks they are greatly appreciated.

I moved from BR to Wake Forest, NC in 2008. Absolutely love it here. If you are single, I would look more to the Raleigh side of town. If not, Wake Forest is an awesome place to be and is exploding right now. What you have heard about Cary is about right. Downtown Raleigh, Glenwood Ave. is booming.

Do you rent or own a house? where will you be working? Raleigh is big spread out metro area, but the downtown is making a resurgence. I have relative just out of school living there, renting nice appt in Cameron Village area, very trendy shopping/ bars etc. and close to downtown offices.
