Serious question. Why the uptick in armed robberies? I mean, are we still in a recession? Shouldn't crime being going down in better economic times?

There aren't enough cops to patrol the city because the NOPD is losing members left and right. Also, the NOPD can't stop and frisk anymore. Thugs basically have easy pickings anywhere in the city and they're setting up shop where the money is: French Quarter, Uptown, etc.

This. Plus drunken tourists who don't understand the danger of stumbling down dark side streets make for a pretty easy target.

Like stadiums with no roof where it's freezing and about to snow. Makes no sense to me why any stadium where it's cold would have this

Yeah, the bad luck is going to catch up with the NFL with having a superbowl in one of these cities soon.
N.O. kicks arse in so many ways with the logistics for events like this. Hotels, restaurants, convention center, dome, etc, all within walking distance or a very short cab ride. Very few cities have this.

I hate that this crime in the FQ is happening. I want some thugs shot. BUT at the end of the day, you have 8 million visitors a year coming to the city and maybe 30 or so tourist a year end up dealing with bad crime like this.

I don't care much for the quarter, but I was down there with my mardi gras krewe last night doing a little march and the crowds were great. Met so many out of towners and the quarter just had an awesome vibe.
Of course I was out of their by 10, so maybe that matters.

Lower petro prices. The state knows the two engines that prime the pump.

The girlfriend and I stayed in the Garden District a week over New Year's. There were women walking alone after dark and we never saw any thugs. Also spent time walking in Warehouse District, downtown, and in FQ although not at really late hours. We never felt the least bit threatened.

Bold move. My sister and her friend had a gun shoved in their face and were robbed right off Magazine in the Garden District. And that's in the good part of the Garden District....7th or 8th street.

Glad ya'll enjoyed. It's great do see people on droppings getting out of the quarter from time to time when playing tourist.

Anything that causes State Troopers to do anything other than write tickets is fine by me. I'm impressed by their shaved heads, cool hats and ability to walk back and forth between their Tahoe and the citizen they are relieving of money.

It will do them some good to do actual policing.

All it would take is a 1/2 dozen strategically placed bait/sting ops and subsequent "justified" shootings...to displace these animals !
Question is......can/will NOPD muster the "will" to send the proper message ????
