Gas Station Beating "wrong neighborhood" trial delayed

The trial of a convicted felon accused of knocking a St. Francisville man unconscious at a north Baton Rouge gas station after teasing the man about his pink shirt and allegedly telling him he had stopped “in the wrong neighborhood” was postponed Tuesday until March 30.
Donald Ray Dickerson, 43, of Baton Rouge, was scheduled to stand trial this week on a second-degree battery charge, but prosecutors told state District Judge Lou Daniel that Jacob Butler, the lead detective on the case, has the flu and has been ordered by a doctor to rest in bed and have no contact with others.
Dickerson’s attorney, Bernard Blair, objected to the state’s request for a continuance and said the defense was ready to proceed to trial. Daniel, who noted that the defense previously sought and received a trial continuance last fall, said there were proper grounds to grant the state’s request.

It's in the link. They were misdemeanor summonsed on paper and released. Totally fricked up. Not to start it all up but can you just imagine if a group jumped a black family at the Shell by Country Club of LA? Holy Hell, the National Guard and martial law.

No
Look, I don't like the way police handle this situation but police do this all the time.

Would not have guessed that to be the reason why it was delayed, nor would I have guessed that Dickerson and his attorney would have been ready to move forward with the trial

Typical posturing, when they know the judge is going to grant the continuance. It happens all the time in civil cases.

What would you say about the following situation:
A black family man, with his family, stops in a predominantly white neighborhood for gas. As he is peacefully pumping gas, he is approached by a group of white males mocking him for his clothes. After the mocking, the white males jump the black husband and father in front of his family and savagely beat him until he is unconscious, including, but not limited to getting stomped in the head. Immediately prior to the beating, he was told that he was "in the wrong neighborhood".
Other than "being in the wrong neighborhood", the crime was 100% unprovoked as proven by video evidence.
Thoughts?

will not be charged with a hate crime
Why do I feel like the situation would be different if the offender was white and the victim was black?

Just a short term delay by the defense. Hillar Moore is charging the TPOS with habitual offender status that wil result in a life sentence. frick this POS.

I'm disgusted with this whole case. Does anyone know how the family is doing?
