A good read on where the LSU football program is currently.

The posi-tigers will not want to read this article but it is a wake up call for them. Statistic's and records don't lie, only people do.
Not saying that you can't come out of a decline but it is pretty clear that is where the LSU football program's record and stats say is happening.

You are one of the worst negatards on here. You get off on bad news or something? It's pathetic. Also...old news.

hooooolie shiiiiit, i'm posi and i see gold.
and the negs see shite. wow!
They say history is the best predictor of the future.
If so, this is a pretty interesting point in history for the LSU football program.
Despite whatever frustration and angst that may have resulted from the 2014 season, this remains the longest sustained period of success for LSU football ever.
The Tigers have had 15 straight winning seasons and been to 15 straight bowl games. That’s not something any other Southeastern Conference program can say.
Since this purple and gold age began, LSU has gone 8-5 three times: in 2002 under Nick Saban and in 2008 and now 2014 under Les Miles.

I love how the worst years out longest tenured coach has ever had are 8-5 years with good bowl opportunities.
Look around the last 50 years of college football and see where that stacks up.
Quite frankly, the only two options for the program are "steady as she goes" or decline.
Go ahead and freak at the slightest hint of "decline" all you want.

The program has declined. There is no denying this. But our recruiting remains strong and the fundamentals are there to recover quickly.
Miles needs to make changes though. The old way is no longer effective.

The issue isn't that we have had a huge drop off or whatever... It's that we have had a little drop off, but the other teams are catching up / have caught up with us.
And I don't know if we can get back to the level that we were at, considering our offensive philosophy and QB situation.

Did you miss the part about LSU playing for a title every four years? That was kind of the whole point. You pulled one quote and tried to make this article an indictment, when really its just saying things can go either way, and no other program has had this much sucess in the last 15 years. Eat several dicks.

Good article. Now,we're nowhere near SMU,but it'll take time to get back to title, or playoff round.
2015 is a big year.

SR is exactly correct. IF Miles has a bad year in 2015 I don't think he sticks around much longer. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if LSU forces him to take an early retirement if he doesn't get things together soon. Just a guess but he is older and approaching that age.

Actually the article indicates that with the LSU program's up and downs, this past year was the down and we should be poised for a NC run here in 15 and 16.
The reality is, anytime a team under-performs, it is at a crossroads because you don't want to make a habit of mediocrity or worse, losing. This offseason and next year are no different. We are missing key pieces to our program. The most pressing is a DC. The coaching staff is in the process of fixing that. It doesn't matter who we hire; a contingent of the fanbase and the majority of the media will criticize it because we are an entitled, spoiled fanbase that has been so used to winning that an 8-5 season is grounds for cleaning house and starting over. We have lost our concept of reality that programs don't stay at #1 every year. Sure there are a few instances where some programs have, such as the Nebraskas and Oklahomas of old and Bama's streak a few years ago, but those don't happen to every program, and they sure as hell don't happen at LSU. What we can be sure of, is that the coaching staff want to keep their jobs, so they are going to work to find the best available candidate for the position. Let's let the off-season play out. Let's see who the new DC is, let's see how our recruiting class finishes out, and let's see how all the underclassmen that were starting or getting a great deal of playing time improve, now that they actually have some experience under their belt.
At this point, it's all a waiting game and there isn't any article by any media member that will tell you anything you haven't heard or thought about. They are there specifically for clicks and sales at this point because there is nothing else to write about.

The first stat is legit but the second is biased. 20 years ago LSU would not have made it into a bowl game with an 8-4 record because there weren't as many bowls. There are bowls out the wazoo now and its not really a good metric unless you narrow it down to the handful of premier bowls. Music City Bowl isn't even a top 10 bowl - its a definite lapse in LSU's post-season prestige. fricking 2 o'clock on a WORK day for crying out loud.

So, you are saying programs like Michigan, Fla, Texas, USC should close down their operations because they are not even as good as LSU?
Posted on 1/5/15 at 9:46 am to Dudebro2
Just an opinion but,I wouldn't be surprised if LSU endures several mediocre seasons before wholesale changes are made.
Posted on 1/5/15 at 12:49 pm to Dudebro2
The last 5 years have all been above the average/norm of the LSU program. Yes, the decline is a fabrication of the short-minded, spoiled portion of our fanbase.

Posi-tiger here. So the only thing that Rablais is really saying here is this:
Ok, but excluding that loss, we're still talking 28-11. And if you exclude losing to that year's national / SEC champion in the regular season, the records are:
6-1, 5-2, and 4-3.
This year sucked. Will you get over it next year if we go 9-3? 10-2?
quote:
Including that loss in the BCS final, LSU is 28-12 overall. The program has gone from 8-0 in the SEC to 6-2 to 5-3 to 4-4.

An unconvincing article with little or substance written by a known Miles hater. Back to the drawing board.
