Dad has an old Remington 742 in .308 that has killed alot of deer.

I have a BAR in .308 and one in 7mm rem mag. I killed an 8 pt with the 7 yesterday. Both are very accurate. They shoot as well as my a-bolt. If you buy one, I would get the Safari not the new model.

My dad shoots a newish ~10yr old Remington 30-06. Im not a huge fan of it. Its heavier than my bolt action and has jammed more than once on me at the range.

My dad used a 740 all his adult life and I don't ever remember him missing a deer. Later, after he got an SKS, he shot a couple with that. same result.
Korean war vet. He could flat-out shoot.
