From about the mid 50's or so, through 1979, it actually never did rain in Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night for football games.

Guess it was just luck.

UNTIL, that wonderful 1979 game with 'Bama...I still remember the water pouring down the steps like a waterfall.

i believe it is the Press Box anouncer when he gives the forcast for the game.

Something like,"Chance of rain, NEVER."

As as student in the 70s I can remember some rainy game days, but the rain stopped before kickoff. It was a common saying back then.

It probably helped a lot that they used to start the season a few weeks later back in the day. It seems like the last 5 years, LSU's first home games have been wet as hell.

That was the period, butit rained only very rarely I remember getting wet for a few games. Mississippi State around 65 or 66 was very wet and we had a Florida game postponed because of weather around 67.

in the 50s, it was forecasted to rain for most games, and reports that it rained in baton rouge on gameday came about. Somehow in that year, it rained in BR, but not in Tiger Stadium.

CajunSax--I don't know where you got this misinformation, but in the future, you really ought to consider controlling the urge to comment on things you're not too sure about.

I don't have the book in front of me, but one of the many histories on LSU football--it may have been Pete Finney's--recounts a tale from long ago (perhaps the 30s or 40s) where rain looked imminent before a game, but immediately after kickoff the clouds parted. One of the commentators--again, I don't have the book in front of me so I can't remember if it was a sportswriter, coach, announcer or what--remarked that it "never rains in Tiger Stadium." The quote stuck and we've said it ever since.

I seriously doubt that TS went a QUARTER OF A CENTURY without rain, as you allege. And the actual history for the remark is documented in several of LSU's football histories.

I don't know, but I was at the "White Out Vandy" game about 10 years ago and it rained like a motherfricker that night.

And umbrellas aren't allowed.

Did you ever stop to think he says that because of the saying, not the other way around.

I remember a couple of times the season didn't start until the middle of September. Of course then we only had 11 regular season games and that was back when there were only 10 SEC teams and no SEC Championship Game.
