Went to see Unbroken the day after Christmas. Henceforth all admiration for any individual in the future will be weighed against my admiration for Louis Zamperini.

I just read a column about the movie. They left out the last part. He came home and had serious issues coping. He became an alcoholic, smoker and wife beater. He went to a Billy Graham revival and converted to Christ. His wife was quoted as saying "He came home from the revival and threw his liquor down the drain and his cigarettes in the garbage and promised me he was a changed man. And he was."

I don't think that part would go over well in Hollywood.

those choices tho

They weren't given choices.

Here's the question as asked:

quote:

What [woman/man]that you have heard or read about, living today in any part of the world, do you admire most? And who is your second choice?

Here's the break down by political party:

Obama tied the Pope for first among Republicans.

Yup. Left out the most important part of his mesage and life story. He was horribly broken when he came back. Angry. Depressed. Abusive. On the verge of divorce and bankruptcy. And he was saved through the work of Christ.

I can't believe no one has need the obvious. Don't you folks know when something should make your antenna go up?

LOL. On this same poll George Bush was the "most admired" every year of his presidency. A quick look at the breakdown pretty much shows that the selected folks are VERY spread out making whomever is the top dog, right or left the winner by default. I mean hell, Bush was most admired in 2007 and he was VERY unpopular in 2007.

Basically, the number of different people banned means this is sort of a name recognition exercise more than anything. Look at the history if the poll.

You're right about that, it was never going to be the focus of the movie. Although they did allow a brief synopsis of his post war travails and his turn to Jesus to be mentioned via written words on the screen at the end of the movie.

Its obvious Angelina Jolie admired Louis a great deal.

Nope. He was beaten in 2008 by Obama.

I'm pretty sure my 6 year old niece could beat Romney in her Kindergarten presidential election, so that's not saying much.

Fair enough. But he was tops in 2007 and was DEFINITELY NOT popular in 2007. My point was just that basically, it's a name recognition thing because lefties vote for lefties and righties will vote for righties. Hence, if the vote one side disperses cause there us no top dog, the top dog the other side wins by default

Fair enough

I was surprised to see that Obama tied for the lead among Republicans

I'm not sure I understand the % breakdown. Looks like republicans had a lot of 1%ers (lol)

Either way, if Bush won every year of his presidency cept 2008, then I still doubt the usefulness of this poll

What it boils down to is absent someone to focus upon, each side disperses votes among many. Thus, the side with a single person to focus upon will have the "most admired"

The poll isn't useful because you'd get the same result to the "most UNadmired" because then, righties would concentrate their votes on Obama and lefties would disperse their vote among several conservatives.

It's basically just a name recognition exercise

I'm guessing this poll was conducted at a convention of pied pipers. Their admiration of obama is completely understandable.
