The 2001 team won the SEC. They don't have to brag about specific stats because they won the conference.

They backed into the SEC CG with three losses, hardly even worth winning with three losses.

You don't back into a championship game when you play a round-robin format within your division. In fact LSU was unlucky having to play both UF and UT from the east that season.

Being a qb on a nfl roster for multiple years means youre a nfl qb.

The point is Miles gets blasted for 2013 and Saban gets touted for 2001. Both teams were stocked with nfl talent. Both lost 3 games.
Miles doesnt have the luxury of coaching in a sec west where 3 losses wins you the division.

Really it's a matter of 2 things:
1) expectations were lower in 2001. Expectations were higher AFTER Saban won 2 SEC championships and a NC in just 4 seasons. But in 2001 most were happy with winning the SEC. Especially after the disappointment of Dinardo's last two seasons.

2) They still won the conference. As the years go people forget most other details like specific wins/losses etc..... But they do remember the SEC championship.

In 20 years there will still be a banner hanging somewhere with 2001 SEC Champs. There won't ever be a banner that says 2013 "one of most prolific offenses to go 10-3". That's just not how it works.

nice. let's face it, miles is just as good at LSU as Saban was. it seems that saban took it to another level at bama.

I can't believe a thread trying to make such a stupid point made it to 9 pages and is still going.

You can hate on Nick Saban all you want. The bottom line is that he still brought us a National Title, he arguably started the "golden era" of LSU football, and he wins more football games than Les Miles.

A sunshine pumper/Miles supporter trying to tear down Nick Saban sadly shows more Saban penis envy than a negatiger bashing Miles. They may not mean for it to, but it does.

He never played, though. That's a dumb perspective, in my opinion.

2001 LSU > 2014 LSU

Also it was Saban's second year, dumbass.

What it shows is that there is a statue of Saban erected in the minds of many while Miles never deserved the job in the first place. Tearing down Saban is an effort to bring attention to the fact that there's not nearly the difference between them as people suggest.

The hypocrisy and excuses dealing with the saban area by the usual suspects on here is pretty entertaining.

Its laughable the excuses you make for Saban while blasting Miles. Its comical. Bottomline: Saban walked into a program that was stocked with nfl talent and proceeded to lose 4 games (2000),3 games (2001),5 games (2002),1 game (2003),3 games (2004) and you dumbasses have the nerve to say Miles has held back lsu.
Saban lost at least 3 games every year but once and he is treated like a demi god on here. Miles has given lsu fans its most successful era of football EVER and to some of you, he has held the lsu program back. The hypocrisy is laughable.

They were young. Spears, Hill, and others were frosh...... and you know it. Toe was hurt a lot as well. Ole miss game we were down to Henderson as an RB.

We lost to Spurrier at Florida. No shame there.

Shouldn't be an excuse. Miles is getting bashed because his team was young this year. Goes both ways.

A difference in what they accomplished at LSU specifically or a difference overall?

Spears was switched from TE in high school to DE. Was literally learning the position. You forget we had no db's. Gay was a redshirt til SeCCG. Our pass defense was really bad that year. Really badn. Vols riddled our D with passing in first game.

Nick Saban did make the administration put more money into facilities and recruiting but his ON THE FIELD stats arent great. He lost AT LEAST 3 games every year but once.he left the 2005 recruiting classes in shambles. So much so that Miles didnt even get a full class.

Not at lsu he didnt. Les Miles is the 3rd fastest to 100 wins IN THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF THE SEC. .

Les miles gets blasted for 2012 and we lost 3 starting olineman, starting rb, 2 starting lbs to injury and we lost TM7 due to him being an idiot.

Werent young and they all were on 2001 lsu and Played in the nfl.
The 2001 lsu tigers were stacked with experienced cfb players that went on to play in the nfl. They were also stacked woth freshman and soph who went onto be all Americans and nfl players.

Saban was the turnaround specialist. He is like the CEO who takes over a failing company and first few quarters are bad til he rights the ship. Then next CEO comes in and enjoys quarterly profits when it was the first CEO who was the real genius.

Saban lost one reg season game in 03 and two in 04. Everyone knows we were robbed at Auburn.
