Why do you pay more any time you don't do something yourself? Because..you're having to pay somebody else to do it.

So yes, if you prepared your own sterile saline solution and administered it to yourself intravenously you would save money over having a hospital do it.

1) why are you letting a "med school dropout" put a needle in your arm?

2) if you filled a "big" with water and pricked yourself, most of the red blood cells in your body would burst within minutes, causing you an extreme burning sensation throughout your body before your heart started deteriorating into a deadly rhythm and you died.

Maybe stick with the professionals on that one, chief.

I bet these "med school dropouts" you speak of are still smarter than you.

A friend suffered from horrible back spasms so they gave her an IV of valium. She got so fricked up she was basically drunk and they released her from the hospital.

When I had IVs of painkillers, the damn nurses didn't know how to use fricking set it up right and instead of the stuff lasting about 3-5 hours, it poured into me in about 2 minutes and they wouldn't give me any more.

the IV fluid is actually pretty cheap, good luck putting one into yourself though. I can do it to myself with the new safety catheters but it took alot of practice to build up to sticking myself like that.

If you receive an IV bag with just water, you have no worries about paying for the bag. Your estate, if you have one, might pay for the bag. But, you will be off the hook

Speaking of this, where could I purchase some saline bags and iv's???

Back in the day my nurse friend would always bring a bunch over during Mardi gras and in the mornings we would hang up a bag and stick it in our arms before we would go hit the parade route again and start pounding booze.... shite did wonders!!!

Id love to get ahold of some more and have them saved

They shouldn't run painkillers over IV for 4-5 hours in many instances- a "bolus" going in as fast as it can (2 minutes in your example) is pretty standard in the case of it not being pushed over just a few seconds. And, depending on the drug used, it probably lasted 4-5 hours.

Maybe I am misunderstanding your situation.

An equine vet I went to school with does this when he parties. Whips out a liter of plasmalyte and he's ready to go. Course those guys use 5 liter bags too so it wouldn't surprise me if he used some leftovers from a patient

Yep, about 80% of 1cc is enough water, if that much. And you definitely want it mixed with something good.

Not just water. Tubing, needles, tape, machine, the space you're taking up where you are getting said fluids, salaries of the people that prescribed and are administering the fluids.

But, yeah, it's still pricey as hell.

Lol, i didn't understand my situation. I was in a country where I didn't speak the language. What you said made a lot of sense. I don't even know what they were putting in me. It was either pain medicine, or anti-inflammatory or both. The night nurses hated me so much though. I'd beep them for pain meds and they'd come by like 45 minutes later glaring at me and I assumed they were just injecting me with as much as possible to make it quick so I would get to sleep and stop complaining. That shite never worked either. Constant pain. Good memories!
