Please don't. My son (now 18 months) had h1n1 last year when he was 8 mo old. It was horrible. We didn't even know that's what it was because the flu swab came back negative. Upon a respiratory swab a week later, we found out it was h1n1.
Three weeks later and he gets the B strand of flu. At this point, we were as miserable as him with guilt and just overall wishing we could help him. Our pediatrician reluctantly prescribed tamiflu because I asked for it. 5 minutes after we gave it to him he projectile vomitted and literally had hallucinatory episodes for 12 hours. It made everything much worse.
My father in law is a neurologist and frankly, scolded us for giving that to our son without asking him first. Tamiflu should NOT be allowed in children so young, there are multiple recorded incidents of severe reactions in children--many deaths in japan and Asia. It caused me to have hallucinations when I was 10. And best part? It only MIGHT rid of the symptoms 24 hours sooner than without it. Sucks but you've got to treat symptoms and let it run it's course. I'm so sorry and hope your baby feels better. Please don't use tamiflu.

I wondered where you went :-)
The flu kids I know that have gotten tamiflu have also thrown it back up.
I opted not to give to my 7 year kid and he did just fine riding it out.

Hi! It's so awful, when I connected the dots of what made me hallucinate when I was little and being the same drug I gave my infant--talk about wanting to crawl in a hole and die.
I'm not a tin foil hat type but damn, when I read the evidence of documented reactions of tamiflu among young kids it pissed me off that it's even allowed by FDA. ps: it was continuously denied by FDA for use in children 2 and younger citing known dangerous reactions. Then suddenly, a few years ago--they mysteriously approved it for use in 2 and younger. And with NO new studies or proof of it's safety. Big pharma can be quite convincing in their lobbying, I assume. So you do have to pay attention to these things as a parent.

Fever of 104+ is dangerous for toddlers. Under not as big an issue as long as the medication is working knocking it down. A low grade fever of 100 or lower do not treat unless kod is miserable as the low gradenfever is helping to fight the infection

My 2 year old son had a 105 fever when the flu first hit him so we went to the after hours clinic. Tylenol got us through the night, but we picked up the prescribed Tamiflu first thing the next morning.
Caused a little vomiting but by 3rd day he was back to normal minus the diarrhea the medicine have him.

Probably another 6-12 months before we look to expand (me, literally) again. The thought is all together terrifying. I want a big family but another infant..yikes.

You're right about no new trials done, but retrospective reviews and case series have also shown a reduction in severity of symptoms, leading to the CDC recommending its use in the <2 crowd. And it's not particularly a dangerous drug. Its side effects are very mild. May I ask how you connect your hallucinations to the drug and not to being sick with the flu? A high fever and severe infection can cause hallucinations. I don't mean to argue- I'm just curious as to how you were able to tie it specifically to the drug. And then- making someone feel/act a little funny would be considered a rather mild side effect that is less dangerous than the natural course of the virus. If it caused suicidality or some such feelings, then I would side with the "careful in its use" folks. But as it stands, we give plenty of drugs that give people funny thoughts and dreams because their weird feeling is less important than them getting better. It's important to be counseled on the side effects and to know what is worth stopping the drug over as well.
ETA- reread your post and it looks like the child had severe fits for essentially the lasting effect of the drug. Missed that the first time. That's worth stopping it over. I don't necessarily agree that it's not worth using I'm any other child, ever, because of that.

They don't disagree with anything I said. He's already sought help and gotten a diagnosis. Without worsening overall picture, the kid doesn't need to go back to a healthcare professional until they're better.
Also, he is treating the child's fever. And the drug he questions about doesn't treat fever.

Eff that Dr, my 16 month old had it last week. Tamiflu is a God send. He was fever free in two days and his disposition would have never made you think he was sick. Give your kid the tamiflu.
