None of my kids take tamiflu, gives them all bad side effects. My youngest has nightmares and is not himself during the day, his brother starts wheezing and his heart rate goes up and his twin says it makes him feel really weird. Just went through this again last weekend and never again am I getting it for them.

The doctor prescribed tamiflu but seemed really hesitant about it. In fact, he said, "I'm never sure what he (being the boss of the pediatric clinic I think) wants to do with toddlers and the flu, but in this case, he said to prescribe it."

1 year old got the Flu on Monday. Started Tamiflu on Tuesday and was acting like nothing wrong on Wednesday. Still has a small fever but really no other symptoms.

Also on Cifdinor(sp?)

The strain of flu we are seeing is different than the shot.

In Louisiana, about 35% of what we are seeing was like one of the strains in the shot. About 65% is like a strain that was in the Southern Hemisphere shot, but not in the one given in the US. This is as of last Saturday, per the DHS's website and weekly publication on influenza.

How was the child diagnosed with influenza, if I may ask?

Its been a bad year for flu in Baton Rouge. Tons of positive flu A and B from nasal swabs. There are so many tests ordered, we almost need one person doing flu tests all day.

Sad thing about the nasal swab is that it's only 50% sensitive on a good year. The '09 H1N1 test was something like 10% sensitive (for others who would like clarification, that means that for every 10 people that had H1N1 (swine) flu, only 1 tests positive with the nasal swab. Likewise, 50% means that half the people that do ACTUALLY have it test negative)

My 4 month old was prescribed Tamiflu. She took two doses and the diahria was so bad we had to take her off it.

My 11 month old tested positive for the flu a few weeks ago. The pediatrician said it was the youngest child with the flu he had seen this year. He prescribed tamiflu but checked with the cdc first to make sure. We got it filled, and the little one was better in 2 days if not 1. That stuff is amazing, you should be getting it now.

No side effects with my personal experience.

So you don't take the Dr. advice yet you come to a message board to get advice. Damn wish you were my parent says NO ONE. Take the kid to the clinic and get the damn meds. 103 isn't life threatening but he is that much closer to when it will become that. One bad spike or if he gets dehydrated it could easily jump into the dangerous area. And by the way stop being a tight arse when it comes to your kid. Buy the damn medicine. How would you fell if he died because you didn't buy the medicine. Jesus man

4 months? That seems way too young to be on tamiflu.

Mine spiked a 104.5 fever yesterday. Scared the shite out of us. First time I've ever seen a doctor nervous. Immediate ice bath to get it down. It worked and since then we've alternated Motrin and Tylenol every 3 hours. Now he's under 100 but still running a temp. Started tamiflu yesterday afternoon and so far so good.

Good news is he's eating and drinking like normal; no side effects from the meds.

Hope yours has a similar experience

I have been seeing kids kick the flu symptoms pretty quickly if we can get them Tamiflu in the first 24-36 hours. Seems like they've been back to normal after 1 day of medicine. BTW 103 fever had been the norm with this flu.

(NP in the ER, FYI. Probably had 30 positive flu tests in the last week. And those are only the ones I've tested.)

"Evidence from past influenza seasons and the 2009 H1N1 pandemic has shown that treatment with neuraminidase inhibitors has clinical and public health benefit in reducing severe outcomes of influenza and, when indicated, should be initiated as soon as possible after illness onset."

You need to calm down sir. Regardless of him not getting the medicine, thousands of people come to this site everyday. Asking for opinions on the matter is something completely normal.
