Really? Like, in what? He doesn't suck, but I've never seen a really awe-inspiring performance. He was comically bad in Pacific Rim.

You haven't seen The Wire, obviously. He plays a Baltimore druglord named Stringer Bell. The Wire's portrait of a crumbling American city sparked serious comparisons to Tolstoy. I didn't realize for years afterwards that Elba was British. He would make a great Bond, but more importantly, you should watch The Wire.

Agree 100%
He would have to hit the gym though. He probably would get his arse kicked otherwise. Based solely on acting, I would say he's perfect.

Why? Do those not count or something? He's awesome because he can do an American accent? Big deal. Congrats to his voice coach.
I think he's just trendy right now. Casting shouldn't be based on the latest trends or bullshite assertions of social justice. Its like when they stuck Evangeline Lilly in The Hobbit. They claimed they were being inclusive and progressive by creating strong female characters, etc. etc. role models etc. etc. bullshite. It's all just marketing, and I don't think they would add many more black viewers win this stunt, and they'd possibly lose a lot of overall viewers because people are sick of the ultimately meaningless PC gestures.

Not necessarily, Connery wasn't exactly "chiseled" back in the day, not to mention the clown show that was Roger Moore. I don't think you need epic fight scenes to make a good Bond Movie, he'd make a perfect "cloak and dagger" type guy, I mean he was spectacular in his couple of scenes from Inglorious Basterds.

Here's a LINK to a 2012 Times article that disscuses Elba as James Bond. Again there's been talk of this for years. Whether it should and/or will happen is open for debate but I dont think its just PC chatter

Pretty sure Connery placed in a couple of Mr. Universe pageants in the 50s and boxed in the Royal Navy. He came across as a tough guy because he was a tough guy.

I've actually seen a theory that James Bond is just a code name, hence the various Bond characters and personalities. Just like M, Q, Moneypenny, etc.
