Looks like a solid gaming PC to me. If he's looking to cut corners, he could do with less RAM. 8gb would serve him fine, imo.

The others here are much better and more up to date with PC parts, though, so I'd follow stout's and LSUToo's advice over mine if they don't agree with me.

Yeah I can always nitpick a build, but he already bought the parts I believe, and there were no serious blunders. Otherwise, I'd say save costs with a different motherboard and reallocate some money to a slightly better quality PSU, and the case doesn't need to be so big but that's mostly preference. And I might've suggested to just go Intel for a build of this caliber, to benefit from the superior single-threaded performance in certain games. But as it is, that build will rape 1080p 144hz.
