What happened to JJ in 2010?

Looking back at the 2008-2011 seasons, it is pretty evident that there was development and then regression with Jefferson's play as a QB.
He was not a dual-threat QB coming out of high school, but a pro-style QB prospect. He was mobile, but it wasn't a reason he was so highly rated coming out of high school (8th ranked Pro-style QB) and was seen as a talented player with a lot of upside.
In 2008, he was pushed into duty earlier than hoped due to Lee and Hatch's injuries and performed decently (very Mauckesque in 2001).He then came out in 2009 as a true sophomore (much like Jennings this year) but showed improved performance and finished the season with 17 TDs and 7 INTs, but took a bunch of sacks at nearly 3 per game.
After a supposed promising Spring in 2010, he fell so far down in the 2010 season that it made no sense. It is one thing not to progress, but to go from 17-7 TD/INTs to 4 TDs to 9 INTs in the regular season.
The question is what happened to JJ after the 2009 season? Was it poor attitude, poor coaching, lack of accountability (never got benched despite being outplayed by Lee), or something else?
I know people hated on his attitude that season, but in reality why did he change all of a sudden and why didn't the coaches not sit him for a game or two to get his head straight?
In the end, you have to think the coaches screwed up by not holding JJ accountable by not starting Lee if only to send a message to him, but just like with Jennings, no matter how poor his play, he's not being benched or even sat for a series or two based on his performance? It's like Les realized it early on by starting Harris against Auburn, but then went back to his old ways.
Does this not mess with both players' psyches?

He was better than he really was that season.
Sounds odd, but sometimes this can happen.

Yes.
The guy would have a terrible performance and afterwards would actually think and talk like he played great. It really was kinda comical to watch.

JJ didn't make great decisions and had a me first attitude. That being said, we have been saying the same thing about our offense for years. 1-2 route passing plays, no use of the TE, ect. It's hard to get better when you're only getting 15 attempts a game on predictable passing downs.

Different coaches handle QBs differently.
Every player is different mentally and there are lots of variables in a players development. There were moments where JJ looked great. The way he finished was surprising to me honestly. You know he had the ability.

Jefferson's biggest issue was pocket presence and understanding how a pocket works. In 2010, his main issue was he faded back in pockets too far causing sacks (37, in fact). His other issue is instead of running through run lanes, he would loop outside of his tackle, allowing the defensive end to easily come off the block and sack him. You'll notice that his best games were those where he ran straight up the middle to escape pressure. There is a reason for that.

His want for {unintelligible} was greater than his need for {unintelligible} and he had the chest for great decisions. Practice {unintelligible} and gave LSU the best chance to win or maybe finish second.

That's the thing. It is nearly the same thing again this season as in 2010 without the improved play like seen from JJ the year before. We have a young QB struggling massively but with no recourse for his poor play. He got benched once and then came right back the next game and despite mediocre to bad play hasn't seen the bench since. I think Miles and company actually helped cultivate that mentality of "me first" or "do no wrong" into JJ.
When players don't have consequences for poor play, they don't get better unless they are a perfectionist. They screwed up JJ's head (partly on him too though) with how they handled things and are doing the same thing to Jennings.

I was thinking the same thing about you. Setting everyone straight or whatever it is you're doing has to be taxing on your soul.

You going to clog up and mess up another legitimate thread with your sunshine pumping and assuming everyone asking questions hates Les?

I thought JJ was an arrogant douche. But after hearing AJ talk, I dont think it was him.
I think it;s Miles and the staff. They are actually telling these players they are doing well, despite playing awful.
If the player thinks they are playing well, and it;s just some uncontrollable reason why they arent succeeding they have no reason to change. shite, they dont even know.
Thats the ultimate crime of Miles.

Yeah, because what we need are more unintelligent threads hurling insults at coaches from supposed "fans" of a team.
That seems like the way to go.

So if someone posts in a thread and criticizes Miles, you'll happily derail the entire thread in your e-knighting efforts for Les and company?
Both extremes mess up this site's flow, so don't act like you are any better than CptBengal when you do the exact same thing.

Seriously, is this going to be a pissing match?
The guy took 37 fricking sacks. That's why he wasn't good in 2010. You can scheme until the cows come home, if your guy takes 37 sacks with limited attempts, it's not going to be pretty.

we're seeing it now with jennings. film has been out on him... teams have wised up to what his passing ability is. they take away dural where they can and blitz him to make bad decisions or no decision.

You mean the same number LSU gave up in 2009 which was his best and only legitimate year?
They stat you are whining about are from 2009, not 2010 where he was horrid. LSU was only sacked 24 times that entire season, yet you are bitching that is why he sucked when he got sacked more in his best year.
Gotta love these guys.

Oh, I'm sorry he went from 107 in sack percentage to 80. LSU quarterbacks were sacked on a little over 7% dropbacks in 2010.
