Obama laid out the changes he is making to immigration laws without the consent of Congress. A key element of his plan is to instruct immigration authorities to prioritize expulsion action against gang members, felons and suspected terrorists rather than law-abiding undocumented parents of U.S. citizens and residents and others.
The changes will offer those who qualify the chance to stay temporarily in the country for three years, as long as they pass background checks and pay back taxes. But they will not be offered a path to eventual citizenship or be eligible for federal benefits or health care programs. And, in theory, the measures could be reversed by a future president.

What's the problem?

He's a Democrat. That's where we are with our political discourse. Imagine if he was the one that issued a stipend, and not Bush.

Name the executive plans this administration has run effectively. That's the problem with pretty much anything thing they propose and attempt to do

He didn't go as far as some people were worried he would. No blanket amnesty as far as I can tell

agreed.

1) I am not versed on whether this is within his authority or not.

2) I hated the asinine 'story'

I was not upset at the plan itself and thought he did well up to the morality play horseshite

I hate how they call illegal immigrants law abiding...like they don't get the meaning of the word "illegal"

None, but he could come out as the biggest LSU fan in the history of college football and people on this board would lose their shite about it.

The plan itself is very reasonable, hell it's downright solid. The problem is with how he went about it.

And the GOP leadership in the House refusing to even bring up the Senate immigration bill for a vote?

And Harry Reid blocked every bill the House sent him the last 2 years. Your point?

1) There is no such thing as 'law abiding' undocumented parents. Breaking the law by being undocumented prohibits the conclusion of law abiding.

2) He is rewarding them. Not just de prioritizing their deportation, but actually GIVING them something (3 year work permit). It is one thing to deprioritize one crime over another but actually reward it?

You don't see the problem?

The speech was. The speech has nothing to do with what he is signing tomorrow. Just like Obamacare was not what he promised in speeches.

Are you answering your own question? There will be no immigration bill passing Congress, therefore the President obviously isn't going to wait for a bill that isn't coming.

While I agree he should have gone through the process, the reality is it never would have passed. The republicans stand to lose lots of support from their base, because these days the party is backed by millions of ultra-nationalistic neo-cons who want to shoot people crossing the border.

There is no room for intelligent discourse.
