Protecting electronics from heat

Bose sound bar, cable box and DVD/Netflix box sit on mantle over fireplace. Mantle gets very very warm when fireplace in use (gas powered).
Is there something that electronics can sit on that will protect them from heat? Would a silicone pad under them be protective.

The best way to protect electronics from heat is to not put them directly above a source of extreme heat.
Not trying to be a dick, but these are your options:
1. Actively cool the electronics/mantle, perhaps with a powered laptop cooling pad or something similar
2. Move the electronics to a cooler location

You could always make a much larger(depth)/thicker mantle to direct the heat a greater distance away from your electronics.

Does the mantle actually get warm or does just the bottom/outer surface?
My TV, speakers, and a IR sensors sit on my mantle above my fireplace and have been fine for 5 years now. When the fireplace is on, the front/underside of mantle gets warm, but the components are shielded from that direct radiant heat. Sure, there's some additional heat but it's not a lot to cause major concern.

Agreed. The thermal conductivity (k value) of wood is rather low compared to a lot of building materials.

The heat from that damned cable box is more of a threat to the other electronics than the fireplace. Those things get freaking hot.

The Bose extends about an inch or so beyond the edge of the mantle and gets pretty warm. I wouldn't say they get hot thought. Another poster reminded me about how hot the cable box gets. Maybe I'll put a cooking thermometer under the Boze so I can see approx. how warm it gets. Thanks

What's the mantle made of? Wood is the best material for a mantle and is actually the recommended material specifically to protect things above the fireplace from excess heat.
