Just saw the trailer for this. What in the world are they doing casting a female as Peter Pan? And Christopher Walken has his work cut out for him if he's gonna compete with Dustin Hoffman's Captain Hook. Who's gonna be watching?

Peter Pan has traditionally been played by a female.

Traditionally, going all the way back to when the play first premiered in London, a woman has played the lead.

Not just any woman. Alison Williams is playing the lead.

Christopher Walken as Capt. Hook does sound intreaguing. My SO and I watched last year when they did "The Sound of Music" (Carrie Underwood ) and it was pretty good TV. I expect the quality to be high for a live performance.

This thread is wonderful.

I'm only 29, but this thread makes me feel old. I loved the Mary Martin version of Peter Pan as a kid. Seems like they used to play it often cause I remember watching it quite a few times. And like others have said, Peter Pan was basically always played by a woman. I think the Disney movie was the first time he was obviously a boy. Since this is a 100 year old tradition, I don't really see what the problem is.
