Bodywork on minivan. Is this a legit price?

Situation: driver side door on 2005 Toyota Sienna makes two loud metallic popping sounds when it opens.
Took it to the dealership collision shop and the said that a weld inside of the door needs to be redone. Would cost $500+.
I took it to a local bodywork shop and they quoted me 5 hours labor to take the door off, take the door a apart, do the weld and refinish/paint surfaces. Total cost $218.
Sounds decent...what says the OT?

Sounds good, almost too good. Proceed with caution

$218 sounds too good to be true.

Bunch of negative nancies in here. Take the deal and don't look back. As a show of good faith, pay in cash and throw out the receipt (if they provide one but I doubt they will).
Gotta learn to trust people bro.

Get it fixed, if the sounds are gone, pay the man.

Thanks fellas. I actually didn't think of it from the angle of being too good. It comes out to $40/hr if he's not charging me for parts/shop fees, so I guess that is a pretty good deal.
It didn't seem shady and they apparently do a lot of business (their garage was packed) so I'll get 'er done. Thanks again!

Sounds like a good deal. It's a 10 year old minivan, not an exotic car. A busy body shop probably made the same repair a dozen Toyota Siennas this year.
Make sure the sounds are gone and the paint/trim matches and you are good.

Very good point. It's probably not the first one they've seen. One of the shop guys diagnosed it in less than two minutes without even hearing what the guys at the dealership told me. They seem like they know what they're doing.

when I see a superhero in a cat mask and then doubletake and realize it's really a cat, I know whats to the right of it, is a well thought troll.

I would fully expect them to pry the door off with a crowbar, paint it with a can of Krylon, and reattach it with a nail gun for that price.

This is a common issue with that year sienna. I fixed my MIL's by drilling the spot welds with a right angle drill and putting in 2 pop rivets. It's held up for several years, took less than an hour and only cost me less than a buck.
Of course, my MIL has no money and doesn't take care of anything so $200 was out of the question.

If it's in Baton Rouge, do you mind sharing what shop is doing this for $200?
I might send them some business.
