I've dipped for close to 15 years and have decided to try to quit. I'm about 30 hours tobacco free right now, which is the longest I've been in at least 6 years. I am a cranky son of a bitch right now though and all I can think about is hopping in the car and going to get a can of snuff. When do the cravings subside? I have sunflower seeds and herbal snuff to help the physchological aspect of the addiction, just curious when I should expect to stop craving it altogether

The worst is the first 24 hours, 3 days, and the end of the week. It is still pretty bad for three months. After that you should be fine.

I dipped for 15 years. I quit 6 years ago and i still get the urge to dip.

At first it was bad the first month. After that the urge would come and go. Still today if i get around someone that dips Copenhagen and i smell it the urge comes back at that moment.

3 days usually. Get an e-cig bro. Low nicotine level if you're trying to quit.

It took 4 days for the worst physical cravings to subside. I felt like Beelzebub left my body at the 4 day mark. Three weeks for the mental cravings to subside. Once I put them down, I never had another one-and that was 18 years ago. Stick with it.

I smoked for 15 years - dropped down to only when I was drinking for the last 5 years or so, then I quit going to smoke clogged bars. Haven't had a cig in 8 months now. Every so often I'll get the craving but i'll kill it with peppermint gum or sunflower seeds.

I've never been addicted to anything other than caffeine.

What I've read suggests your cravings should peak in a few days, then subside after a couple of weeks. Generally, the nicotine will have left your system by 21 days. Residual cravings will be psychologically based, tied to both you missing the habit (sunflower seeds, pistachios, chewing gum, etc., should help that) and environmental/social triggers.

I would get a stop watch. When a "no shite" craving hits - start the stop watch - it should subside within 10 to 15 minutes - although they will get more intense and closer together as you pass the crisis point - you will at least have something to focus on - other than fixing.

And remember, almost no addict has ever died from nicotine withdrawal - they've killed others, but never died from their own lack of nicotine.

In all seriousness - good luck and G-d bless.

Good call on trying to quit. I've tried before but only made it maybe a day before I caved. Maybe you'll have more will power.

One week and I quit smoking cold turkey. Only time cravings came back was when I drink beer, which is all the time. Naturally, I started smoking again but quit for 6 months without much effort.

I quit 2 years ago. Today I was listening to the radio and Blake Shelton sang "chew tobacco chew tobacco chew tobacco spit" and I almost pulled into 7 eleven and caved in.

the physical craving stop after a couple weeks I think. I believe it takes about 3 or 4 days for all the nicotine to completely get out of your system.

Now, as far as the mental cravings? I think those last forever. Like after a meal, a long drive, watching sports, etc...there are still times you'll say "man I wish I had a dip in", but you don't have the strong physical urge to actually act on it.

I quite for 5 years once, but started back about 4 years ago. I recently quit again (going on my ninth week) and, without a doubt, the first week is the roughest. After about 3 weeks the cravings subside to the point where they are easily managed; however, keep in mind, everyone is unique when it comes to addictions and nicotine tolerance leves - some people will struggle much more than others. Basically, it comes down to this: will you master it or will it master you? Dig in, fight the temptations, and pray often...you'll make it!

What makes you want to quit?

Mrs. Insertion (no pics) has a buttsecks offer on the table (receiving, not pitching). I haven't tried yet, though. The way I figure it I'll have been through the pain and suffering and heartache of quitting one of my best friends for about 2 seconds of just the tip.

Cranberry juice helps for some reason. Day 3-4 will be real tough but it is all downhill from there. Until about a week you'll be hating life. One dip though and you start the clock over. After about a week everyday gets easier.

Almost immediately for the most part.

Every now and then I get an itch for it when I'm drinkin and bailing hay or something, but it isn't often.

The first two days were the only really difficult time for me. After that, when I had a craving, I just thought that the cigarette isn't worth starting over and going through two days like that again.

Never.
But they subside in intensity and in frequency.
2nd the vote on Chantix. It works. Hebejeebies are far less intense
