Question about the PE exam

The board has recently modified rule §1305, which allows an applicant, certified as an Engineer Intern by LAPELS, to take the PE exam, ‘but has not yet met the experience requirement for licensure as a professional engineer’.
Is anyone considering taking the PE exam early? Those who have taken it, would you recommend qualified applicants take it early? I'm having the thought that I'll have more time to study for it during grad school (take it this April) than once I have a job.
I appreciate any legitimate answers.

We just played basketball most of the time, no tests.

Is that just for Louisiana?

Practice the pullups, those always got me.

Well, even if you pass the PE test, don't dare call yourself an Engineer until you get your papers from LAPELS. You can be castrated for doing so.
It's best to ask CharlesLSU for this kind of advice. I suggest you add his name to the subject title.

I took it after the 4 years working. It'll certainly be tougher to take if without the working experience, but you have nothing to lose but time and money, so go for it.

I plan on taking it for Petroleum Engineering next October, which will be a little more than 3 years after graduation. It's a tad early but not much.

Aren't you supposed to actually work for a while before you take the test. Kinda like all the dumb fricks who go to grad school with no experience. That's not how it's supposed to work.

I wouldn't take it fresh out of school, but it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot after a year or two. If you're in grad school and your course of study is really what you're interested in, not being directed completely by the professors, then I'd bet that by the end you'll be ready to take it. It takes some study time dedicated to it.

might as well take it while you are in study mode and have everything pretty fresh from college. Its a pain in the arse to study for after being out of school for 5 years. I don't agree with the rule at all but if you can take advantage of it, go for it.

I'll be taking it next year. I'll still have 2 years left of experience to get after that.

I emailed LAPELS and they made it pretty clear that other states will not allow reciprocity after you get your PE due to the date of your exam.
When I asked for specific states that told them this they did not answer.

Is anyone considering taking the PE exam early?
I live in TX now but got my EIT in Louisiana and plan on moving back...really don't wanna burn a day of vacation to take an 8 hour test...

They make this change right when I get out of the field.

Not sure if this has been addressed thus far in the thread but be careful doing this if you ever plan to work in a state other than LA.
I just took the PE Exam last year and this came up. One thing that was brought to my attention, if you move to a state that still enforces the 4 year rule, they may not recognize your license and they may require you to take it again in order to practice in their state.
Best of luck when you do take it though. It's pretty awesome to have that behind you.
